I'm sure this question has been asked many times here before, but does anyone have tips on getting a dwarf lionfish to eat dead food? I live in an area without access to frozen silversides etc, the best I can manage is frozen krill. I've tried wiggling krill on a feeding stick, fishing line etc. Any tips would be most appreciated
Thanks John

I have never been able to get a dwarf to eat dead food... My Volitan was a bit tricky at first as well. I had to feed it live guppies (once a week to keep it very hungry) for 2 months before I finally got it to take a small silverside that I had impaled on a thin string of ridged wire. I moved the silverside around in the water like it was swimming until the lion finally ate it. Also I soaked it in Kent Garlic Extreme.

I got my dwarf lionfish on Monday, so it was 6 days ago. I bought dozen small guppies and 4 ghost shrimp on Tuesday. I used my fish net to fed my lionfish, and he reconized the net for giving food. I knew I had chance to feed him frozen food when I see him happily swin inside the net to eat live food.

So today, Saturday, I used my krill and he did take it but he spitted out right away. I was very dissappointed but I tried with frozen silverside. I cut it very small, size that easily fit in to his mouth, and placed it inside the net. My lionfish swimmed inside the net and took it right away.

I was so happy tonight. I wanted to make sure so I tried it again later and surely it worked.

I used feeding prong and homemade feeding sticks, none of them work.

Use the net. Try with live food for few days. Let him know that net is for food. He'll get the frozen food.

I am going to try on krill again tomorrow but if he doesn't take it, I will throw it away and keep using silverside.

Goodluck.

Feed live ghost shrimp for a week or two. Then try frozen shrimp or krill thawed out. I used to have a gold fuzzy dwarf that loved to eat everything. It took some time to get him off live shrimp though, few weeks.
