eBay and Zoo's

Has any one bought zoo's from or off of eBay, or would this be sacreligous? I noticed alot of them are from online pet stores but are they trust worthy?

The only seller i been experience on ebay is OLD DIVER and he owns http://www.sealifeflorida.com/ and a really nice guy and also a A++ customer service and products are great and if you dont get what you want he will make it for you... thats my experience with ebay so far...

there are a couple of good "real" stores/LFS that sell on ebay that have a good reputation.

but some of them are people who bought the "make a quick buck off of ebay" book, and are essentially aquatic chop shops operated out of their homes.

do your research on whoever your buying from and take a look at their buying history. if they buy stuff from someone off ebay, then turn around and are selling frags of what they bought several weeks later...thats a chopshop

I have bought a few times and no problem yet. Sometimes you can get good stuffs by cheap price.

Ebay often has some rare stuff I usually wouldn't find. A BIG key to success are the WYSIWYG auctions. Watch for full actinic shots too. You'll see everything around the coral blue, giving it a false, normal color. I bought a random pack of 9 zoo frags for like 60 bucks one time. I was pretty happy with them when I got them but quite a few multiples of one type and some were very small. Some I really hoped to get from the pics, I didn't receive.

Many times the pics advertised are nowhere near what you get. IMO, there's no reason to not have an actual pic of what you're selling.

I have bought zoanthids from a couple of very reputable ebay sellers, but I see some that are incredably hard to believe.
One thing you will notice is that every coral that is sold on ebay is "RARE". lol
And because it is on ebay, the price is usually alot more than if you were to get it from local reefers or through trades and on the boards.

hey does zoas are over price over there i can sell you 2-3 polyps of those same light blue color and for $10  ... i guess i have to put them on ebay and get more  .... sometimes the zoas at ebay are crazy like they always selling really expensive the dragon eyes while i can get them really cheap at my LFS!!! amazing how ebay works....

Here's a prime example. I was looking for some of these the other day. I guess I won't be getting them off ebay any time soon.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7772860442&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

17 bids, 140.00 with over a day left.

It's a she and she sent me a dead snot ric rock($125), and then got crappy with me. I see she has nice stuff though.

As far as others and Zoas inparticular, I have spent a small fortune on ebay for just a few polyps. Now that they have grown out I say it was worth it, I was usually mad at myself for spending all that money and the box that they come in is from the jewelry store. But you get good genetic stock. Now that I now I can do trades with other RC members I have not gotten anything else from ebay, but I do look! If you have the money and like the coral get it.

For the most part I've had good experiences. Sometimes there is really nice stuff on there, like those zoos. You just better be ready to pay for it. If somebody's willing to pay 139.00 for blue/green zoanthids, than that's what they're worth.

I bought some rics from this seller last year. They're really nice.

lolz beyond blue blue zoas??? That is one genuine joke right there.

Why not name it beyond ACTINICS true blue instead? Only inexperience would buy such a joke with that price.

What a pity.

I've tried to buy zoos on Ebay, but the ones I've bid on always go over my spending limit. I have gotten some nice SPS cheap on ebay.

I found a small colony of TONS of polyps for something like $20. Bright orange. Only problem is that they didn't use an insulated box in the winter. The all lived, just took a week to get them all open. I now have about 50+ of them and am quite happy.

One thing I do is to search for items within 100-200 miles then ask the seller to ship normal ground. Still get it next day but you don't waste money on shipping.

Watch reeferich2 (ebay userid). Seems to be a chopshop. Good example is a current Blue Kiss auction just put up. Bought a wild colony from Pure Captive. Auction closed on 06/07. He has already chopped the colony, and has a frag on ebay. Never even let the frag settle in to see if its going to survive. They are also using MY picture in the auction! I have had to go back and watermark the pic on my website. Pretty unethical all the way around, IMO.

he's also a very angry racist, as I can show from a few emails that I've gotten from him, definitely beware of that guy right there. also, you can report to ebay that he's using your pic, and they'll remove the auction ;)
