ebay metal halide bulbs

There are a lot of generic Chinese companies importing cheap #*$$#@. Seeing how we often have hundreds to thousands of dollars in livestock relying on lighting, I wouldn't risk it unless you have a good light meter to test it with.

I tried to go cheap with my halides once.... will never try again. And those were the $30 ebay ones.

Why???
can you explain...

I have that exact bulb that I use on a frag tank. I also have a 175 watt 14k iwasaki. I have measured them both with lux meters at 9 inches from the bulb and the Ebay bulb, which the brand is plus rite, is 21,100 LUX and the Iwasaki bulb was 26,400 LUX..both bulbs have approx 120 hours on them. I notice that the ebay bulb has a slightly more reddish hue to it, not by much. For the price I would get them again

I bought a couple of 175 watt SE 10K halides off of ebay for around $20 plus shipping each. They were quite yellow but I dealt with since I have plenty of actinic supplementation. I actually got some really good coral growth for the six months that I used them. I just couldn't stand the yellow look anymore so I went back to XMs.
