Ebay MH bulbs

didnt the second link show par on the same level if not more then the big boys?

"PAR Summary 6" 12"
Radium 610 430
old Aquamckzo 20k 430 330
Plusrite 14k 778 560
Plusrite 20k 477 350
Ushio 20K 530 382"

Keep in mind Plusrite 14k looks white like 10k and the 20k look like 14k barely from the ones I had.

"The Plusrite 20K gave a comparable color to the Radium but was noticeably dimmer"

"However the Plusrite 20K, while similar in color to the Radium and 1/6th the price, was severely lacking in PAR. It had output similar to a 9 month old Radium."

thanks i understand now.,, my 14k 175w plusrites have a nice blue, not radium blue but almost to much blue for me coming from iwasakis.

I wouldn't say my Plusrite SE 250W 14k is white like a 10k bulb. A 10k is more yellow, my 14k is definitely white with a touch of blue. The 20k I have is definitely blue, but not as much as the higher priced brands.

I ordered 2 150 watt 20k Odysea bulbs for $9.99 each plus shipping, was like $26 total. I have not had a problem with the bulbs, fired right up, good blue color, just like my Coral Life 20ks only not $76 each.

4 weeks into my 175w plusrites and they are sweet bulbs, take into account ive been running iwasakis so im spoiled.

my montis have some great growth going on rite now and color is still a nice blue, not one has started to yellow or white out even a little.

I thought the 250 Watt PlusRite 14K SE were a little too white, so I bought the 250 Watt Artemis 14K SE bulbs and ran them for about 6 months. They look nice, just a little too blue. Some of the fish seam to look washed out. So, I decided to go back to the 250 Watt PlusRite 14K SE and they really seam to look better. My fish have colors again. The bulbs light is white, but definitely have some bluish coloring. Nothing that makes the water appear blue though. I think I'm going to stick with them.

Interestingly, I just swapped out my Artemis 14K for the 10K yesterday. Although I think the color of the 14K were more to my liking and the softies and zoas colored up nicely under them, I think the PAR must be rediculously low because growth in my tank has essentially stopped. The 10K artemis definitely look yellow, but at least I get growth from them. I think I will switch to name brand soon, as I am not sure I want to try more cheap bulbs...

I swapped to Aqualine Buschke 13K. It's like night and day. They are easily double as bright (to my eyes) as the Artemis bulbs. I see colors that I didn't even know my corals had. I think I will raise my canopy several inches for a while though. No more Artemis cheapies for me even at 1/7th the price. Glad you guys had better luck with the Plusrites...

you can get any of this bulbs with Trust Deals at ebay they work great, thats where i got mine today. Here is a link from my experience

Nine months ago after reading some comments about the Plusrite bulbs I decided to order two 175w 14k SE to replace one of my Reeflux 12k bulbs. I was having problems with one of my Reeflux that was not firing. I replaced the bulb not working with the new Plusrite. The Reeflux bulbs where two months old. I have two Coralife ballasts.

As of today I can say that the Plusrite is a little whiter and brighter but not that much. I don't see a difference in coral growth or problems with algae when compared corals under each bulb.

I am planning to buy two new bulbs but this time will try the 20K.

BTW I was looking at the Trust Deals bulbs at ebay and found one new bulb with what they call "twin arc". Is like two bulbs in one. They even have a bulb that one arc is 20k and the other 14k. They are more expensive but they claim they are more intense.

Is there anybody that has tried these new bulbs?

Looks like they alternate between spectrums each time the bulb is fired. You don't get both simultaneously so I don't see the point. I will be purchasing the 20k when my bulb goes out.

Dawn/dusk simulation maybe? 20K in the morning and evening, 14K during the day? Not really worth the extra $$ for me.

Yeah but then you'd have the 20 min wait until the bupb could be turned back om again. The more I think about it the more useless this bulb appears, lol

Has anyone tried the 250w-SE 20k PlusRites on an IceCap electronic ballast?? Thinking about trying them out for the price, just hoping someone had some input with this bulb/ballast combo.

Thanks!

I've used them on 250w Lumatek Digital ballasts and they look good, Right now I have two Reeflux 20ks on older non-adjustable lumatek digital ballasts and a plusrite on a adjustable lumatek on the HQI setting (I think thats 275 watts) and the plusrite looks a little more purpleish but you can't really tell. The reeflux's look better but $20 vs $60... pick your battle.

You really cannot go wrong with the ebay bulbs, I've bought the 14k and 20k, I will say on the digital ballasts the 20ks tend to look like 14k and 14k look like 10k

The "outsides" are two ReefLux 20k 250w SE on Lumenarc Mini's powered by Lumatek Digital Ballasts. The Middle is the plusrite 20k 250w SE on a reef optix halide pendant and a Lumatek Digital ballast at 275w. It does not look as bright as my outer lights but keep in mind it is in a less efficient reflector and it is right over the center brace.

Does anyone have the PAr reading for the following bulbs. I seen many ranges from this site just looking for average. Ita appears that the highest PAR of the 4 was Plusrite.

Plusrite 250w 14K
Plusrite 250w 20K
Artemis 250w 14K
Artemis 250W 20K
