Ebay MH bulbs

Anybody want some 14k 175's from eBay? I ran these for a month. Looks like someone peed in the tank. Now I'm back to good ole Iwasaki 15k's, much better.

I got some 400w 14k and they were quite yellow. I thought I would give them a chance to burn in before returning them. After a week and a half I made the call to return them. No issues on the phone. They were going to give me an RMA but would you believe that 3 hours later I went down to feed the tank and that bulb was a perfect blue/white color to match the other 4 halides on the tank. Before then, There was literally a streak of yellow right through the middle of the tank. Not sure what the burn in time is supposed to be but I am definitely happy with the color now

Never sit MH fixture on top of glass tank tops, I put the fixture directly on top of the glass to take pics and in less than one minute I heard a crack and immediately removed the fixture. It crack the All Glass Aquarium lids and luckily the fixture didn't fall into the tank!

Good advise. I have heard of people setting MH pendants on their glass center brace ! :sad2: Same results !

Interesting....

Now that I see the packaging on the plusrite DE bulb.... that is not the packaging I received.

The bulbs I received from Trust_Deals on ebay just had a white package with a 14,000K sticker on it. I should still be getting my lighting upgrade Saturday Morning. So I'll compare the ones I have from trust_deals to the new Phoenix 14K's I got with the lighting package.

Tangtang Clown, where did you purchase your bulbs?

I ordered from Trust_Deals also. All 11 bulbs had the white cardboard bulb holder inside the green cardboard box.

To be honest, I think my 150w 20k bulbs are starting to look even better/more blue. I run them about 7-8 hours daily and I really like them.
I will be installing the 250w 20ks in my new canopy in Feb.

@TangTang

Those bulbs almost look green to me in your earlier pictures. It is strange how the same bulbs looks so different in different conditions

I actually had to give my buddy back his par meter, so I was unable to get any new readings.

I am going to grab the meter again after this weekend to post some shots. I will have the Ebay Bulbs in the new Lumenbrites, with the new Icecape Ballasts. Then I'll do a reading with the 14K's.

That should pretty much put the whole argument to rest I think. Both bulbs will be under the same ballast, same reflectors, same tank flow... taken with the same par meter.

The green is from my Odyssea T5s. They are 14watts and 15" long bulbs, and no one else makes a 15" T5 so I already have my T5 4x39w retro kit. As soon as my new canopy arrives, I will be installing the T5 retro and a 250w x 3 MH retro. I'm excited!

Good. I was a little worried that this green hue is what we had to look forward to :hmm2:

Great. Looking forward to it.

Well I am also going to take the plunge and buy 3 250w 14k's Pulsrites

I'd rather buy the 20k's but since its going over a new tank I need the better growth from the 14k bulbs... I'll just supplement them if need be with some VHO's

Anyones used the Coral Blue?

and what do you guys think about going to 20k I have a 120 gallong tank and I am running 2 odyssea 250w on each end and 2 coralife 150w pro metal halide in the middle. need all 4 bulbs they are 15k and 14k.

The initial bulbs I received where 14k DE Coral Blue. All I can tell you is they looked 10k compared to my Phoenix 14k.

I don't think PAR will be an issue with these bulbs, just the color IMO

yes I will be running all. Since I have a center brace what I did I put the 2 250 Odyssea metal halide on the side an dthe 2 150 aqualight 150 in the middle. The aqualight pulls 220 wats from the magnetic ballast. I will add pictures soon. I am just wondering if anyone used this guys coral blue brands of bulbs. It seems that the reviews are about the Plusright. He is saying the the coral blue are the same par as the xm. Do you have the 14k or 20k on your tank?

I received the Coral Blue initially but hated the color and also the ends cracked very easily. He said since I was unhappy that the 14k where too white I should go with the 20k and all he had were Plusrites in 20k, sooooo 2 months later I get the 20k and they are almost as white as the 14k. Also the end broke on one again so I got 2 more Phoenix. I have the Pluseites for backups in my drawer.
