purchased ebay rodi for 99 shipped

bought tsunami dual stage DI for 62

2 pressure gauges 22

a tds meter for both input and output..35

total is 218..

water going in is 176 tds ppm

water coming out is 0 tds ppm

just thought id share.. running at 82 psi comes out at 80.. not bad in my opinion..may not compare to some spectrapures and such but its a sure way to get pure water for pretty good price

How many stages and how many gpd?

Interesting. I wouldn't mind looking them up. I am overdue for replacement elements. I should have ordered them today.

i guess it ends up being 6 stages if you consider each DI cartridge a stage.. if you consider the whole DI unit a stage its a 5 stage unit.. as for GPD the DI unit doesnt have a limit.. ebay seller says 100 but i wouldnt do more than 75..

thefilterguys.biz they seemed to have great prices and great products..

I got all new filters from Buckeye Field Supply (www.buckeyefieldsupply.com ) at the swap in Columbus Saturday including a new refillable DI cartridge and 3 clear 10" housings to upgrade my filter for about $60 total. I also picked up a TDS meter, it shows 275ppm going in, 6ppm out of the RO and 0-1ppm from the original DI. I'm going to order some calibrating solution but if those are accurate numbers my e-Bay unit is still pretty good after better than a couple years...

The thing to consider is the membrane and how that equates to DI usage. You did not list the membrane that you ordered, but it is likely a 90% rejection unit. It will use resin 5x faster than a 75 GPD DOW FILMTEC (found on the better units).

176 in = 17.6 TDS out (for the DI to take care of)
The filmtec would be 3.52 TDS out.

The price difference... well it all depends on how much water a month you make. The more you make the sooner the "more expensive" unit actually becomes the cheaper of the two. Your Input TDS is about midrange.... much higher and the lower quality membrane would hurt the pocketbook much sooner.

Speaking of the "filters"... sadly most of the "eBay" units seem to be coming with fairly sorry excuses for "quality" pre-filters. They appear to be "over seas" knock offs of the real deal.

This is something to consider. You should be replacing your pre filters at least every 6 months anyway. When it is time, yuo will want to get high quality filters from Filterguys, Buckeye, AWI, PurleyH20 or spectrapure. Stay away from the no name ebay stuff.

The DI unit you purchased is nice.... the Filterguys have put together a reputable business.

yes they have.. i talked to desert rat and he told me id be better off with a 2 stage di unit right now than upgrading all my prefilters and ro membrane and a 1 stage di.. so thats what i did..

I just placed an order for 2 sets of replacement elements for my RO/DI unit through http://thefilterguys.biz/di_systems.htm That was an excellent deal. With this company I'm filtering all the water I need for $40.00 per year (incl. shipping $).

After speaking with them RE: DI, they first asked whether or not I am using well water or city water and approx how long my DI lasted on the average (I use the color changing resin in a 10” inline horizontal housing). Reason being, he said, was that well water specifically can be high in CO2 which can very quickly eat up the DI resin.

Depending on what your ppm is coming out of the single DI and how long it lasts on the average; maybe 2 would be tip top.

yeah i just went with two just to be safe.. i think i wouldve been allright with one but this way i wont be "skimping" or something and wont regret it down the road.. congrats on your purchase though!
