Whats up with the guy selling Tunze stream kits on Ebay? Immediate payment required but item may take 4-5 weeks to ship?

Shipping Note: Tunze USA has informed us that this item may take 4-5 weeks to ship. We cleared Tunze USA out of all thier remaining controllers and Streams. Which have all been sold. We have a large standing order with Tunze, and since Tunze USA fills those orders first, they may come in sooner. Since these are all hand made, Tunze likes to give themselves a shipping cushion, thus, the 4-5 week lead time. So, please keep in mind, it may take 4-5 weeks from the date of your payment for this item to be shipped. Thank You!

Seems a little unethical?

Not saying anything negative about the seller, but keep in mind that if you have a dispute with a seller and you paid via paypal, you can only dispute/request a refund/etc. within 30 days from the transaction date.

I dealt with a similar issue...person required immediate payment, but said it would take a few weeks to get the item out. I wasn't worried, since Paypal offers money back up to $1000.
Needless to say, I'm now out $800 as a few months later, the guy has vanished and its past the 30 days. :(

Just thought I'd share my experience....

That is very unethical and if I find out who he is he will never get another pump from me.

Where did you find this, I cannot find any auctions of these items? Just give me the dealers name and he is canceled. Their is no excuse for this.

In the ebay sellers defense, I have not bought the stream system from him, but I have made a few other transactions with him and they were smooth. That is if it is from the same guy I am talking about from WI.

I have talked with him and it was a misunderstanding that I think is resolved, I am sure he iss a fine guy and runs a legitimate business, he does have a decent LFS from what I hear. My problem with eBay is a few fold but mainly I think my product line is something that people need to see and have explained to them and be able to go in for help when they need it and the internet wasn't reallly the selling forum I had in mind, I guess I like the old fashioned way and if I am spending a lot of money I like to be in a store and looks someone in the eye. I like the internet for somethings, like I can help people instantly and with photos. I also in this case don't like having the customer prepay, especially when 4-5 weeks is a guess at best and that can make him and me look bad, what if it takes 8-10, I am at the mercy of too many forces to promise a delivery date, I can only do my best and I don't think it is fair to collect payment for something that isn't ready to be shipped.

I could'nt agree more.

Requesting a deposit to put you inline for an order would be one thing...
Requesting ALL the money up front so the seller has no initial investment on the items he is selling for profit? Simply playing middle man? Not with my money. ;)

What really strikes me wrong is his claim of...
"We have a large standing order with Tunze, and since Tunze USA fills those orders first, they may come in sooner."

...I'm not sure I believe this, from what I've read in this forum that is totally NOT true. If it is I guess I have a real problem with that... Using Someone else's money to fufill a large order and get it quicker then a small shop (lets say any LFS) That is investing Their money to retail Tunze products? Unjust to the small business men AND the customers that shop there.

Roger, I am waiting for one 6000 Kits and I don't see any thing wrong with what he's doing. People have different ways in marketing products and if he see light on Ebay he should go for it..

Look at this , do you think someone will bid on something they don't know anything about? I think you should be happy that your product is on ebay and if he can't deliever what he promise thats on him..not you or your company

By the way I have your osmolator and I am very happy with it.. and your forum is great because you alway answer everyone question in a day. SO because of this I am comfortable in spending $700 + on a 6000 Kit..

Well thank you. As I said, I spoke with the vendor and it is resolved. It is kind of humerous that Norbert Tunze used to see being on eBay as a real sign of success. It does cause problems though. In the long run I want a good dealer in every city where you can go and get parts and get things fixed and eBay can be a good deal but I also see price gouging and I want things to always be on the level and I appreciate that I got a heads up about this.

what. leave it up to the LFS?? Do you not think that the internet has allowed folks to buy at greater discounts? I am amazed at this statement. many online dealers sell TUNZE.... in fact, I would chance to say you guys sell more Tunze products from the Internet then any where else..

""" I also in this case don't like having the customer prepay, especially when 4-5 weeks is a guess at best and that can make him and me look bad, what if it takes 8-10, I am at the mercy of too many forces to promise a delivery date"""

what about last year?? Your online venders were taking orders for your products and even we had to wait 6 and a half weeks to get some 6100 streams in....and we paid in full at the time of the order.. I did not hear you say that then??

""""I don't think it is fair to collect payment for something that isn't ready to be shipped.""""

now, I cannot say what is what with ebay, the dealer and tunze..but the fact is, no one said diddle when they had to wait to get those streams in...so, would you tell the big guys online that buy and sell your product not to take $$ until they have the items in stock?

here is an old post, and there are a few:

I have 2 6000's a multi-controler and 2 deco rocks on order from my LFS. I believe he orders through Champion. I was wondering what the wait time is for these items? He is telling me 4 to 6 weeks.

I would say that lead time sounds about right but we do seem to be catching up so it could be sooner.

I am also amazed at this sudden internet sales is not what I wanted statement.. I would buy off an online dealer before venturing into many of the LFS that have had a lifetime to treat folks right..

just my 2sense

PS: i believe that the tunze streams are the best in the world.. but even YOU have advised folks about the DELAYS in shipping:

No, from day one the internet is only a necessary evil, I don't have dealers everywhere yet so that is what I have to work with. I have things worked out differently so the LFS is competitive with internet dealers. I haven't changed my stance on anything. I also never said we didn't have delays in the past just in the past as now our internet dealers- which are the best at what they do - Champion, Premium and Marine Depot, don't charge until they ship, they may take the cc info upfront but they don't charge upfront. I am sorry you don't like your LFS but that has no bearing on what was said here.

roger:

first of all, i am not arguing or cutting you down, just stating some facts...

you made a statement that internet sales were never intended.. that you intended to sell to fixed retail stores.. that seeing the product and getting support is some how tied to FIXED LOCATION RETAIL SHOPS..

anyone in this hobby that knows what is necessary to be in this hobby knows that most LFS do NOT have the proper equipment...and support us usually provided by under paid/trained Sales Clerks...

now, there are INDEPENDANT LFS that specialize in reef hobby equipment, but the vast majority DO NOT..

when you introduced the TUNZE MARINE line to the us, it was a big deal, I recall searching the internet in regards to buying your 1st class products... because ALL OUR LOCAL LFS DID NOT CARRY TUNZE..

the first major break was not long ago, and it was the ONLINE RETAILER who made this happen...

the fact that you made a big deal of the 4 to 6 weeks waiting period, irregardless of cc holding or charging, made it seem that the person selling your product was lying...I mean you just jumped on the subject and issued a statement that made folks think the guy was a liar and cheater.. even thoughyou said you would check it out...

that is what i mean... and meant...

it is a fact that individuals should check out LFS and OLR's....

but nost new folks in the hobby go to their local chain pet store and get ripped by a 90% higher factor than online dealers..

online dealers have great EMAIL support.. and most will adress issues.. OK, i would rather see the item .. but it is not going to happen in most circumstances..

also, online dealers are more than likely to offer fairer prices...

so, my comments were addressed not at your character or company negatively,, but by the choice of words in your initial and immediate statement when the poster first added his inquiry..

hey, we love your product and are HAPPY that FINALLY we can sell YOUR product because folks like Champion will sell to online retailers...

hey, have a great day..

rock

Rock I agree with you 100%......even if LFS have a special product that I want I always go and check the web for pricing and rating. If i see a product online I try to find it local before I purchase it...wake up ..Roger just sell your product and leave the rest to the retailer....

or work on lowering your prices..by the way your company make great stuff and have great customer service....

with a 4 to 6 week waiting period because they cant keep up the demand would mandate prices staying where they are or going up, basic laws of supply and demand

as far as leaving it up to the retailers to deal with his product they would cut the quality of this product sell it to you for 10 bucks cheaper and you would have your self a pile of junk.
Tunze is what it is due to they way they run there company, they keep control of every aspect.

I think Roger thought there was a scam going on so he looked into it and found it was not then verified that the guy was legit

Take it for what you want easy to take shots at a guy who here to take shots at why not look at the whole picture. He works for a company that does everything in there power to make a high quality product catered to our every need. The company does not skimp to make a buck. they also like to know who is selling there product so you dont get screwed.
Roger himself obviously takes pride in the product he sells as you can tell by the customer service provided via this forum and its not just advice

but everyones entitled to there opinion

bah!

lets not turn this into a flame fest or troll party.

Tunze is the best.

If you want to go to a brick and mortar store then do so...expect higher prices but get one on one help and advice.

If you buy on the internet, expect slightly lower price that is off set by shipping and don't expect to get the same personalized or professional advice in as timely a manner.

If you have to ask the price , you most likely can't aford it or don't need it anyway.

Roger is the most ...well let this speak for how i view Roger and his businesses...

no flame intended..

BUT:

:""If you have to ask the price , you most likely can't aford it or don't need it anyway."":

????
are you nuts? just because you ask the price does not ever mean you cannot afford it.. that is crazy... when buying anything, always ask the price, then you have something to compare// and if you cannot afford it now, you can save for it..

that sound like class warfare

:""If you buy on the internet, expect slightly lower price that is off set by shipping and don't expect to get the same personalized or professional advice in as timely a manner."":

yea right.. who in the hey is selling all them there prism skimmers? and thos hang on air stone do das... and i can go on and on... the products most sold in LFS are those mass produced to IMAGE quality and guess what.. you PAY THE SHIPPING CHARGE ANYWAY... do you think the retailer does not pay for shipping??? they have to ALSO have it shipped... and then they add it to the price

to say you get better help from the LFS.. well.. yes, on how to lose your money... or quit the hobby...

tell me that most LFS have refractometers?

I can go on and on.. they sell to sell,, they have low paid sales clerks...

yea, there are some LFS that are great.. but the majority?

if you are a smart shopper, you can get lower prices and cheap to no shipping charges..

yes, some things may be cheaper in a LFS, but after you consider they are selling low quaility merchandize.. well....

but, this was not meant to be a flame.. or cutting down of any one..

when or if someone was to tell me someone was doing something I would CHECK IT OUT before I ranted about shutting them down,,,

period

and this rant about internet selling.. well, it would not be hard to say that the statement was a cut-down of those who sell online..

tell me, who sells more QUALITY lfs or the internet?

thus, why should i go to a LFS over a qualility online company

have a great day........
