i had a tank crash last winter due to a 18+ hour power failure.. lost some corals and a few inverts. had a real issue getting the tank back and stabilized. followed by a HUGE hair algae explosion. after months of maintnance and regular 20% water changes got things back on track, all my levels were good but i couldn't get my nitrate in check. so i took a chance and ordered an ECO AQUILIZER. it's been six months and no spikes been maintaining close to or @ 0ppm. anyone know about long term affects if any - the system is designed to break the molecular bond impurities have w/ the water increasing skimmer performance and availible oxygen levels... seems to be working so far

Rusty Jones, the ecoaqualizer is a hoax and gimmick, you bought a tube of magnets. There is little to nothing they do for your aquarium.

Any result in better water conditions is a direct result to your better husbandry.

It's based on junk science, i.e. marketing gimmicks that are well designed to make the non scientist think "wow", while those with a strong scientific background are laughing about the heavy dose of bull. It's been those water changes and your regular maintenance that are working for you, the eco-aqualizer is just along for the ride doing nothing.

They work on those that have just enough science knowledge to be dangerous.

Water is a polar molecule and it is possible that the water gets aligned as claimed as it passes thru the magnets, but it is so reactive with charged molecules that it likely reverts the second it is out of the magnetic field to the way it was pre-magnet.

If you really want something to take good care of your water, save up and get a top of the line skimmer. I have 2 Bubble King skimmers on my tanks now and they were the best investments I could have made. They really help keep the water in good shape. There are others out there that do a good job too.....just giving my for instance.

Short cuts and gimmicks only really serve to frustrate and waste the money of the people who pursue them.

well i guess we all have to do some trial error i do appreciate the input. i guess i was just so stressed and sorrowful about the loss of my poor aquatic friends i was willing to try anything.

i still maintain 10% water change bi-weekly along with all my regular maintenance, i do need to upgrade my skimmer at least to something w/o the use of the lame air stone. at least if i drop a paper clip or some other metallic object in my sump ill know were to look =p

I had a HA problem myself as most of us have over the time of our tanks so I feel your frustration. You might want to up your WC to weekly. When I was having issues I would siphon out the algae into a filter sock and also siphon the live rock. The algae will tend to feed itself as it traps detritus. I would definitely upgrade to a non air stone skimmer.

If you've cleared up the problem and the air stone skimmer is working for you why change what isn't broke? Just like the ECO AQUILIZER, a gazzilion dollar skimmer won't cure bad husbandry practices.

Not saying a good skimmer isn't an effective tool, just pointing out an airstone skimmer can also be a good skimmer.

BTW, I have three skimmers, on a shelf in the garage .......... :lol:

I have family in Barrington (actually, my entire system came from Barrington )...I think you guys have your own ECO Aquilizer...my tank came with one (truth)

I use one to reheat my coffee. It also keep vampires away. Or maybe that's just garlic. Anyway, since buying the Venti sized Aquo-Equalizer or Equo-Aqualizer or what ever it's called, no vampires and hot coffee.

Which is nice.
