economical place to get water tested?

I'm just south of Bgm in New Milford, PA. Just finished the new home and am now beginning to noodle on getting a tank build started.

We're on a well out in the sticks. Talking with the an engineer at Spectrapure, he asked for a report on our water to let me know if their standard 4 stage RO/DI system will work for me. Talking with a local PA water testing company (who is focused on fracking and $$$ water tests), they wanted $550 to get me a test and report -- seems a bit high since I'm not concerned about fracking contamination (yet).

Do you guys know of anyone in the area who does water well testing at a reasonable fee? as in a range not exceeding 2 digits?

so Spectrapure is looking for many specific values that are not probably a part of the water softener thing...

I could just install one and see what happens, but I'm one of those guys who wants to know the outcome before I start i.e., if iron is way too high, the standard system may not work correctly, etc... with a well, its had to guess at what's coming out I'm told (btw, this is the 1st time I've been on a well so I am clueless).

I may just have to bite the bullet and do the real testing... overtime, I will loose much more than $500 if I screw the system I'm planning...

I'm looking to do a 400-500gl tank, so it could get expensive to f**k it up...

I've heard that you usually want a softner/iron removing system with a well anyways since it's not uncommon to have both hard water and iron in well water. I know that the water softner I have does iron removal too, so far I've been doing great with just my tap water. I also have a house filter, so that probably doesn't hurt either. good luck

The only problem I could see happing is you would have to replace filters more often if there is a very high TDS. Buy a five stage systen with a pressuere gage and duel TDS meter and you'll be fine. TDS is what you are looking for the higher the TDS the worse the water quality for your tank. 5 stage should give you 0 TDS very good.
