If you really wanna feel the pain at the pump, you should be driving my cars lol. I have a 71chevy p/u, (10 mpg) 70 chevelle (10 mpg) and a 74 nova ( 1/4 mpg ) and i just bought some land and am building a house 200 miles away in north florida lol. I made 2 trips there last week at just over $125 per trip. Even better, gas is at $4.09 for the cheap stuff there already. I rode my bike up once, and it still cost my $35. I am almost ready to just pull the plug on my reef.

How about just buying a car with good gas mileage? :p

i just bought a 95 suzuki swift that gives about 42 to 46 mpg.i bought it with the intent to sell but it might wise for me to keep.

LOL, yeah i'm gonna have to give up my classics, but it takes a long time to recoup the price of a car in gas. It don't look like it's coming down any time soon, so i will be getting something, but i got all my funds tied up in house land and materials right now. My banker would laugh till he peed if i asked for a car loan right now. I'm moving so far out in the sticks in north florida that the post office is smaller than my livingroom. 16 miles to anything at $4.09 a gallon lol, but i'm sick of the traffic and the snowbirds.

lol i am actually trying to sell the chevelle and the nova, but with $4 gas they aren't goin anywhere fast lol. I'm not givin em away either lol. I haven't had a car payment in so long i can't even remember the last time,

Amen to that! With all this 408 construction its been taking me over an hour almost every day to get less than 20 miles... :mad2:

If I didn't have one semester in school left, I'd be hunting for a way out now....

I can feel your pain with the old cars. I have a 69 camaro and it drinks gas like I can drink beer. lol I dont pay attention to what it gets a mile cause I dont drive it enough. A tank full in my car last a month or 2. lol

Dugg if I was 5 years older with a steady job and a bankroll to match I'd take teh Chevelle off your hands in no time flat. One of my bucket list items is to own and drive a classic car :)

Oh and my bad it wasn't a hybrid but an electric sports car. A little bit $$$ but check out http://www.teslamotors.com/

chrisstie, if ya wanna keep that bankroll lol, you better take the classic car out of your bucket. I keep my wife in a newer car, but the 74 nova is the newest car i've ever owned that i drive. It's fun, but a bottomless pit to throw money at for sure. I probably have $45,000 in my Nova and if i get $15,000 for it i'll be shocked. I'm asking $19,500 just because that is what i spent building the engine that is in it now and has maybe 200 miles on it and ten 1/4 mile passes at the track.

I dunno, this doesn't make a whole of sense to me in some situations. Why on earth would you buy a car to save money? A basic car payment, $350, is a lot of gas every month. Perhaps if you are still paying your current car/truck off, but you're still adding thousands of dollars of debt to save more or less $50 or so max a month on gas.

I suppose buying a car is good for the economy, as long as it's not an import. And that is the only way the economy is going to get better, by spending money.

Yeah for the economy to get better we need to spend, but we are all spending in the wrong place lol. We should be spending our money on paying down debt instead of creating more. The less debt we have the more the value of the dollar goes up, and that is what's wrong with our economy right now is a weak dollar.

For me I would be cutting my car payment in half and getting better mpg but it's hard for me to let go of my sports car. I'll see how long I can hold out.

Forecasters and saying at least 12-14 months of this negative economy to look forward to.

I didn't catch the import thing until I read it again, but many import cars are manufactured on American soil providing labor for Americans. For example, Toyota/Lexus has 13 plants in North America with 11 models made here in America. There are also other car manufacturing plants in America by import companies like the Eco friendly Subaru Indiana plant, Honda, and Nissan just to name a few. The new Nissan Titan is made on American soil...had the brochure sent to my house. It's pretty surprising how things have changed in just a few short years.

That SNL skit is awesome. LOL. I guess this leads to another question...Economic Stimulus Checks. Are you saving them or spending them? I'm using mine to pay off some credit cards.
