Any feed back of L1 ecotech return pump is it better to run it dry or submerge in sump

mine is submerged. About a year and zero issues.

I have a Ecotech L1 on my Closed Loop system.
Only been in use about a month...no issues; running quiet with excellent flow.

Large Closed Loop with a 125 sqft Pool cartridge filter followed by a 100 lb Pool Sand filter w/o sand only bio materials for reduction of rocks in the tank ....Fish Only System.

Do you have to open up to clean or maintain once in a while

I open my return pump once every month to clean & inspect impellar, make sure its not damage.
