EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

hey Andy, can you post a pic of that? I really don't understand what you mean. I don't have a hood to tie onto, but maybe seeing a pic or two will give me a new idea.

ASH - I had the original dry side gaskets on the pumps when I switched to the new wet side gaskets. One pump fell off 3 times and the other became very miss-aligned. I removed the dry side gaskets all together (yesterday) and they are still in place today.

EchoTech - the glass is only 3/8".

Reefwaters-

What setting is the pin spacer on and are all three pins properly installed into the heat sink? It is VERY common for customers to have problems like you are describing because the pins have been bent at one point during installation. Usually a new pin spacer is needed in these cases. We will be making this part out of harder material in the future to avoid this problem. However, if the part is properly installed then it will function fine.

If the pin spacer is properly installed, what version of the new wet gasket do you have? Is it a hard plastic part with foam stuck to it that snaps into the back of the wet frame? Are you using the thin, floppy, black gasket on the dry side of the tank?

If all of this checks out, just up the pin spacer setting to 1/2" and it should be a lot better off.

Finally, you may just be in need of the ceramic drive shaft as your plastic one has worn out. Fortunately, the ceramic ones really don't ever wear out.

That is very interesting Reefwaters. My acrylic is also 3/8". I had a pump seem to slip several weeks ago. It has the old dry gasket and the new wet. Not separate but it was off center by 1/2" or so. I re-centered and left them alone. A couple weeks later it started making a vibrating sound. Noticed also the pump had turned towards the back of the tank like the tension on the cord had slightly twisted the pump. I turned it down a hair and it went away. Then couple days after that they separated. I re-seated the pump and made sure the cord was straight up again. Seems to be working fine these past couple weeks. Didn't notice any slipping or vibrating.

But your experience is making me wonder if there is any connection to the gasket combo. My other pump has old style dry and wet gaskets, its turned up all the way and never any issues.

This problem is not attributed to the original dry gasket (this has never changed) and the new wet gasket (this has changed three times! the final gasket is the RIGID wet gasket which incorporates an injection molded part into the assembly). If any of you are experiencing this problem please bring it up, because as I mentioned above, there's other things that could cause it.

One other thing is sometimes the sticker on the face of the pin spacer will bunch up, causing slipping on the dry side of the pump. In this case I just recommend you remove the pin spacer sticker (but mark which setting you keep your pump on), as it will impede performance.

Sorry Tim. The pump that slipped was the one I sent in and you replaced the sticker with the newer one. So maybe it is that. All I know is the pump slipped once off the dry gasket and separated once. I didn't say anything because I thought I must have aligned them wrong.

No reason to apologize, sorry if I came across that way!

With such a new design, it's very common for many of our customers to assume things are as simple as the design first appears. This may be true, however there are a lot of nuances to the way our pump works that are not immediately obvious. Our goal is to make it simpler. I think as we continue to work out the smaller and smaller design imperfections (things like the ability for the pin spacer pins to bend, wire tie mounts that come undone, etc), and as customers get more used to the design and more experienced with it, we'll see more customers helping customers.

Sorry guys, I'm really not so good when it comes to the PM's here at RC. Even if I respond to one I still don't necessarily register it on our to do list until you email me the confirmation to sales@ecotechmarine.com

Guess what i'm saying is, email us ;)

I'll clear the inbox and sent box now.

I just installed 2x M40 on my 150. Everything is solid as a rock and smooth as silk so far! It has probably been already asked but should/can I register my units?

Thanks

The pump fell off again!!!!

For some reason, only one has really ever given me problems.
The other one hasn't messed up since say the first week or two I had it.

On the one that fell off, I removed the spacer sticker, put the dry gasket back on, checked the pin spacer pins for any bends or breaks (none there), and tightened the shaft a little (it was pretty loose). We will see what happens.... but this is getting annoying again.

No but Ill try that. Its a little weird to me that the other one hasn't had any problems like this though.

Would the old style shaft have anything to do with it?
