EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

I am as well. I just purchased two vortechs for my 150 and they are great. I absolutely cannot wait untill I can control them both. Is there a difference between the controller coming out later this month or next and the wireless controller, or are they the same thing?

The Wirelessly Controllable Drivers, (soon but not soon enough being released) have the added feature of being able to be controlled (program) to operate at an alternating flow pattern. Right now, you can just set the speed.

The differences between the Wireless vs. Single Driver Controller are the W.D.C. can operate multiple Drivers in a manner to create unique and changing flow patterns. The S.D.C. can only operate one Driver and with a shorter menu of options.

It was the decision to make the S.D.C. an added feature to the Wirelessly Controllable Drivers that slowed up the release. Based on many posts we received, it seemed to be a no-brainer to delay the release and add these features.

If the Wireless Driver Controller release is delayed, you (and I) will already have a VorTech Pump that takes advantage of its digital operating system. Right now you see the power (and great looks) it has. With the upgrade, you'll see it has brains too.

"And the WMDs?"
Your security level prohibits me from discussing details, but don't leave home without them."

I think I'm going to try the Vortech. Tank is 36x18x24 (BB and SPS) and I'm currently using two Tunze 6000, so you can imagine the real estate that consume. Would one work or should I go with two? I do plan to upgrade tank in the next couple of years when I move.

We run one on our 75G at IceCap and it couldn't be healthier.
I'd get one and see if the way water is circulated is sufficient, considering your tank is used to a lot of flow.
For more dramatic water movement without requiring the relocation of the VorTech pump often, you may be spoiled and need two run at less than full throttle. When the single Driver controller is released, you'll be in flow heaven.

Thanks Andy for the response. I ordered one for now. Looks like I may have two months to decide if I want to get another one at the current price before the new driver version comes out.

No... the way i read it is they will tell us about it in August...

It was cool for the first few months but I really wish they would either tell us something firm or just forget about it until they are ready to really do something.

I think you are right Niko.

To Icecap and Ecotech:

I've been a supporter since the beginning. I have IC all through my tank. I have 2 Vortechs and 2 BB. I have suffered through all the various Vortech issues. I think this is one fantastic pump...when it can be used as it was meant to.

Let me elaborate. With the driver corruption issue I cannot use my AC jr wavemaker function any longer. According to ET I must keep the pumps running for minimum 20 min cycles to prevent code corruption. I am now seeing coral health problems from the constant laminar flow. Even though it is wide and gentle. It took months to show up after I had to go to the 20 min cycle. But it is there(sides of coral facing vortech has flesh eroded away). I have had to cut one pump back to < 50% and make a big bare area with no corals. In a 150 system that means I am down 25% of my flow.

Now I've been telling myself I can wait it out. The upgrade will happen end of spring. Oh wait now it's July. Oh wait again now we'll find out the info in Aug. let alone the release. Myself, like many others, bought these pumps knowing they were compromised without a controller because we were led to believe a controller originally would be released by end of 2006. Or could use the wavemakers in the interim.

Please tell me I have misinterpreted the remarks made by ET. Because I am getting extremely frustrated by the continuous missed dates(same thing with the BB when it was released) and off handed remarks meant to keep us on the hook. I know you are working hard and are nice guys. But to regain your credibility you have just got to deliver us something.

Sign me - still a supporter but at the very end of my patience

Phil

Phil and everyone-

Aquarium pumps have become a very competitive market place these days and due to this we now chose not to reveal product information until units are ready to ship. Further, we chose not to ship product until there is no chance of problems. None of us want to go through the issues again that we had this time last year.

We are doing our best here and value each and every one of our customers: those that have been there since the very beginning and those that have just joined us recently.

What we will be releasing soon will exceed the expectations of everyone. There is a reason why no body has any idea what's coming and when: the reason is because it is just that cool and secret.

I feel your pain Phil. I just dojn't know how anything could be more cool than the waves generated at MACNA, but unfortunately, none of us have that technology yet.

It was a calculated risk for me to build my system sans closed loop, and unfortunately, so far I have gotten the short end of the stick. Not much ability to "go back" either so I am waiting with hope that IC and Eco-Tech can get us some control over these pumps. I was quite dismayed to learn that I could not use my ACIII Pro to at least turn them on and off, and I find it hard to believe but easy to understand why they haven't joined forces with Curt to remedy that.

I would bet dollars-to-donuts that they are scrambling to legally protect Vortech technology since they will be faced with reverse engineering soon if not already. Manwhile, the MP-40 provides stellar flow, but in my case, not so much since they are overheating in my tank room and I have to run them at about 60% (guess) to keep them cool enough.

Tim has been extremely helpful in trying to solve the many issues I have encountered, and I respect and applaud him for that effort. I just wish it wasn't necessary. :)

Wow! Its like Christmas! I remember when Christmas used to be "cool and secret." It was so much fun. I guess I can wait. You just better not disappoint after that statement. :D  :smokin ;)

Tim, do you mind briefly explaining the differences in the wired and wireless controllers, specifically in regards to the drivers that came with the first generation of pumps. I cant remember if you said I would have to replace my drivers or not.

Also, I have been turning my pumps on and off every 5 minutes with my AC Jr for a year now and have never had any kind of issues with the control. I also haven't had any problems in months with the shafts or pumps moving. Once you let a little coraline algae "glue" the wet side to the glass, it really wont move.
