Question for you. On the motor side, I know it is supposed to get warm, but I'm unable to touch it for more then 3 seconds before it begins to burn. Is this normal? I can temp it with one of those infrared temperature tools from work if that helps. I was just curious.

mine get pretty hot too. I figure that is a mechanism of low voltage.

Ah ok. Does anyone else run their's at 100%? I now have a SEIO 1500, 1100, 1000 gph return and the 3000 Vortech and I still feel like I need more. I was hoping 2 Vortech's would solve my issues But I think I'm going to need 2 Vortech's and another powerhead of some type maybe in the back portion of the tank shooting at an angle.

Any comments on that?

So far I haven't had 1 issue. It seems most people only post problems here which is why this forum is here. I take it I have the new model since I just received it in last week. Runs great and I was surprised at how my naso doesn't get blasted by the flow. My Seio's seem to have a stronger force initially but don't appear to push as far. Pretty neat device.

Yeah mine are at 100% during the day-time. Vortechs spread the flow a lot more than Seios but it is still very hard to hold a long handle scraper in front of one. I am getting excellent flow in the middle of my 8' tank.

I might just have to pick up that second one. Are they planning on beta testing the controller or inhouse testing and then selling to the public?

I just like how small it is.

For a 6' aquarium we recommend two pumps. As far as posting goes, bad news always goes further than good news. Realize that there are a lot of pumps out there now. No news is great news.

We will beta test the controller but it will most likely be limited to the original VorTech testers and those who we've become close with

BTW, no problem with that unit running on the DC8 cycled by the Neptune Controller at 5 min ON/5 min OFF. Hasn't given me any error codes and is running smoothly.

That is true. I guess I'll just have to make up some issues lol I noticed my Naso swimming around today and I fed my tangs some Nori. Well I came back out and he was stuck to the side of the Vortech and a piece of nori was on it. I was pretty shocked. I fumbled around for the plug and remembered the quick disconnect on the white speed controller and flipped it off and he swam off. I turned it back on and I really don't feel that big of a suction although he is over 6". There was no marks on him and he's been fine when I checked on him this evening.

I know if he would of hit my Seio, he probably wouldn't of made it as those pull pretty strong. Usually a sick fish I can see doing that but this guy is pretty healthy and fat. I guess it's just a dumb fish haha.

strange with the naso...how long have you had it? who did you get it from? I got a retarded one a while back that I think was cyanide caught.

my longnose hawkfish got stuck on a Vortech the first time he went into the tank but I cut the power and he has learned his lesson!

I'm not sure where he was from. I've had him for several months now so I'm not sure. Yea I think he will stay away from it now.

I haven't had any fish do such a thing with my VorTech. They often nibble at the frame. Snails have crawled all over and in it, and some fish have swam right next to the intakes.

Maybe mine isn't running as fast as yours. Less suction.

Typically they are unaffected by it and I have caught mine nibbling too. Snails all over mine too and they don't seem to have any problem with it. My fish seem to like charging into the current and then peelingf off at the last second. It seems to be kind of a game to them. The sailfin will do this repeatedly.

When I first saw the nibbling late last week, the thought occured to me that maybe that is why I have had the rattling problems. But I figure that is the first time I had seen it so I have concluded that is not the case. Since getting the new washers and tightly securing the power cords, I have had virtually no rattling problems. They are humming along and I just wish I could control them now. I am doing it by hand each morning and night...

He didn't seem like he was freaking out and there were no abrasions which is common. Every fish I've seen get sucked to a powerhead usually gets internal bleeding afterwards and dies. However I saw no such markings. I'm wondering if he was just laying there nibbling on the nori being lazy but sort of caught or what.
