Ecotech Vortech MP40

Who has one (or more) and how do you like it? I'm thinking about getting it for my 110g tank but I don't know if I only need one or more than one. Would two be enough ramped up to max output? Also I was told at my LFS that when I set up PH's I shouldn't set them up with linear flow but the mp40's don't allow for adjustment of the direction of flow.

I have two of them it was about 1,200.00 for the kit of two pumps and the bat back up.
For one let me tell you i am unhappy with them.
If you are doing it for just a bat back up them get a PC batt back up "UPS" and some maxi jet or korlias and use the bat back up with them and you will save a lot of money.
Some things i dislike about the mp40.
1. There is a night mode that is not long enough just my .02 you have to set this by holding 2 buttons there is no light sensor.
2. i am color deficient and they use colors lights for the different modes.
3 it makes sss noise when going threw some of it modes
4. The dial adjuster is not that good of an idea you have to set up the reef mode for how long the pulse is and how power full the wave or pump is.
yes it is not that hard to do but i have noticed that when i set it for a certen "wave" it gets faster than when i first started.
5. When in bat back up it only used half of its speed.
6. There is no way to turn off the lights on the controller so when in reef mode it will pulse and you see it if your controllers are not hidden but then if they are hidden you have to get to it to use the feed mode.
If I got one or two more pumps and controllers for the price i would probly like them more.
For the bang of the buck i don’t think i would do it again.
just my .02 i do like the pumps and they have added a lot to my tank.
hope this helps you out this is just my $0.2

o 1 more thing

o 1 more thing

The wires that go from the pump to control box is cheep it shows the wires and the covering is short so be careful not to twist or pull it hard.

I have 5 of the MP 40's. I run 4 of them on my 120 and one on my frag tank. They are great pumps. Clean the regularly and make sure you anchor them in place, with the safety tab they give you in the kit, it's there for a reason(talking about the dry side).
I would run no other pump in my tanks after running these!!
I can actually make water come out the top of my tank with a certain pulse mode.

For a 180, I would run 2 of them for sure.

I have 2 MP40W's, Gen II and love them. They are quiet, user intuitive, and they move a boatload of water. I do not think you can go wrong.

I have also been running 2 vortechs and my 90 and I'm more than satisfied. Replaced a couple tunzes with these and haven't looked back. They do make some noise depending on which mode you use, but I honestly can not hear them over my fans or overflow.

So for a 110g I should go with 2 then? I almost purchased 2K 4's but I returned them when 1.) I saw how much my LFS had charged me for them compared to some online shops. 2) the tank wasn't set up yet. They were huge. I was thinking about getting the magnum koralia's but the price on those goes up substantially from the K4.

K4's won't flow anywhere near what a vortech will do. Not that you should expect it to considering the price difference either though...

I have them mounted on opposite ends of the tank facing eaching other about seven inches below the surface. That was the mounting that was convenient for me. They reallly do move the water I have to say.
