ecreef

Thanks ecreef, I am glad to see this coming to a relatively friendly conclusion. In the future a phone call, email or PM would have prevented all of this. I checked the FEDEX number and indeed the delivery date is Mar 27th at 4:30pm. We will wait until then and verfiy clearance of the check before following up on any further means of collection. I was not looking forward to a drive to 13th and Colorado.

To the rest of you who responded to this thread: I have bought and sold several items on RC but it has always been an exchange of payment and goods in person. Being in Cheyenne this is almost always possible and the best way to handle things. However, shipping was ideal in this case and obviously did not go very smoothly. How would you folks have handled this? Buyer sends money then I ship product or possibly use paypal somehow? What do you do when you have to ship something to someone relatively local and donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know them personally?

Most people on this thread have been pretty honest. I guess it depends on how much you are willing to gamble. I think with paypal there is recourse if you do not recieve the product. I prefer to pay in person and recieve the item or visa versa. I do think that most pople here are fair though. Hopefully you will have better experiences in the future.

For larger priced items, I believe Paypal has some sort of program where the buyer sends the funds to Paypal and Paypal holds on to them. Paypal then notifies the seller that the funds have been received and are sitting in an account. The seller then ships the item and once the buyer receives the item they notify Paypal and Paypal forwards the funds on to the seller.

I think it was an extra fee to use this service but may be worthwhile for more expensive items.

Or, for a small fee you can receive funds from a buyers credit card. They have all sorts of recourse with their credit cards if there are problems.

I checked the online help at Paypal and it says they don't provide escrow service, but there are other places like escrow.com that do. It is a little pricey (e.g. escrow.com charges 3.25% with a $25 minimum) but like Jagermeister said it might be worth it for more expensive items.

I would agree that most people are pretty honest when it comes to this forum, I have sold and purchased many items here on RC, both on our forum and the selling forum, and have never had someone not pay or not received an item. I have had plenty of people back out of a sell, but that is something that is to be expected, IMO. If I am selling something I always receive payment first, either through PayPal or a check/money order. PayPal is by far the safest method and does have a function that allows the buyer to file a claim in case they don't receive an item. Fortunately I have never had to use this function but know people who have and have been satisfied with the results. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m glad it sounds like everything is going to work out between you guys.

I've had good and bad selling experences..

The worst so far was selling my Riding mower on Craigs List.

The guy showed up 1 hour early before I got home from work.
He told my wife we had agreed on $50 less than what the deal was, loaded up and bolted before I got home.

other than that it's jsut people that never show up..

Jdallred.. I still feel bad that I couldn't buy the 180 you had... Sorry about that..

Alex,

The more I think about this the more it ****es me off. You state you have an upcoming move, you are selling the reef keeper, you are not answering your phone and you are not returning phone messages. Plus I don't have $130 in hand, only a fed ex tracking number to what could be an empty envelope. For simplicities sake I hope you check this board very soon and give me call. I am coming to Denver Friday to retrieve my reef keeper and I will return to you whatever is in the envelope when it is delivered by FEDEX.

Just so we are clear and you know I am serious I have done a fair amount of research including the JeepsUnlimited forum and spoken with Lindsey Jett of the VA State Police (540-829-7735). Seems you have ****ed some people off pulling this kind of crap before.

I will be coming to Denver to retrieve my Reef Keeper unit. I would think finding a Black Expedition near one of the apartment buildings with a pull-in driveway on the east side of Colorado Blvd before 13th shouldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t be too hard. Call me at 307-634-1197 any time this evening and we might be able to talk about this. The best solution without involving the Denver police is for you to hand me my reef keeper and I will return whatever is in the envelope when it is received on the 27th.

I hope you donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t perceive this as a threat just a course of action to right a wrong. It may seem a little harsh to those who have not been following this but I have reached the point where action is necessary or I feel I will be out $130 and a reef keeper.

Please call 307-634-1197 or 307-631-1862 and I will continue to leave messages on your phone.

Yeah I am sorry this kind of deal has happened John but I think we all learned we should all pay with a credit card or in person with all RC transactions.

Sent you a pm. I am will be free to talk tonight. With my filter crash and a new one being on order, I am just letting this tank go. You have the Fedex track numbers and the money is in there. Two $50 Bills, one $20 and $5's. Total $130. I have stated this on the board and I have posted the track numbers for all to see. I am sorry but between two jobs and school I just don't have much free time. Like I said, sent pm so feel free to pm me. I have done what you asked. Also, you are more then welcome to come to Denver and get the RK1 back, but I will want the Fedex payment sent back right away then. I am more the willing to work with you.

Just to respond to make it public just so I can show everyone, I was not in the Boulder location. Also, I think you came to my place in Denver, but I was gone by 6:15 and the buzzer does not even work for my place as I have no local number. Stupid design. Anyway, let me know how else I may be able to help. I will be free after 6 tonight so just let me know. Liek I said, I sent it to you and I ask that it's confirmed on this thread once you get it.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the envelope contains $130, if so I will post on this thread an appropriate apology with explanation and chalk all this up to mishandling, miscommunication and ignorance on my part. If not, than as I said in the PM it then becomes a matter of principle.

ecreef,

Look at it from PrarieReef's perspective. Apparently you never responded to any polite means of communication (and I don't see you denying that). It took threats of a lawsuit and public humiliation on these boards to get you to (maybe) send any money at all. And now you are trying to sell the product you received from PrarieReef even before he has seen any money from you. What would you think if your situations were reversed?

I don't know either of you, I was not priviledged to the negotiations that took place, but I don't think PrarieReef owes you anything, much less an apology. Just be happy he's a nice guy. Mail fraud across state lines is pretty nasty and a visit from the FBI is a good way to ruin your day.

And in addition to that if you put in the tracking number you will notice that the package was not shipped till a day after this thread was posted. You would think that you would have shipped the money the day after you recive the package, not the day after people start talking about it on a public forum. Makes me wonder if he would have never sent anything till he saw this, and the possible leagal course he was going to take.

I am not trying to take sides, it just seems a little fishy to me ;-)

look, i am not upset with him at all and understand. Secondly, I got it out that day and posted the number same day, which was the first time in two days I was online. So I am done with this thread. By the way I sent it before I even knew of the thread so if you want to trash me that way then fine.

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m done with this thread as well. I have learned a lesson and hopefully others can benefit from my experiences. Today at 5:30 I picked up an envelope from FEDEX containing $130, thank you ecreef for holding up your end of the bargain. However, I believe it was only my posting on the forum, doing some research on the internet, and driving to Denver today at 5 am to unsuccessfully pick the merchandise that ultimately secured payment. Some people probably would have given up on the $130 and moved on. Unfortunately, (and I hate to say it) itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s the principle of the matter. To me retaining council for fees way exceeding $130 or even spending a little time with Denver Police trying to explain some unlawful or questionable investigative work is well worth it if I can stop this type of thing happening to me or others involved in our hobby.

Anyways, forget the rambling and give ecreef credit for coming through with the payment. In the future (if at all) I would only buy from ecreef in person. For me anyways all future transactions with anyone will be done in person or cash prior to delivery.
John
