One pair per nem, nice gigantea Ed. I'm jealous

Thanks Nick - I wanted to go for a RBTA but worry she will become a traveler in my tank :rolleye1:

Fish are safe with gigantea :)

I would say 'safer' but not exactly fish safe as I have one before and have lost a couple of fishes to her....but for sure less aggressive compare to a Haddoni IME

Yea i really wanted to get one of those nems they are beautiful but I do not want to lose any of my fish as a snack. I plan on transfering my RBTA and just giving it his own rock so hopefully no roaming.

you lose fish without nems, what if there was a sticky carpet in the tank when your wrasses died? What if they wandered or got blown into it? would you blame the carpet or the wrasse?

i know that i have not heard of the same kind of fish predation with Gigantea that you get with Haddoni, plus Gigantea look better and seem to stay smaller.

The name itself doesn't lean to that assumption.

Your new nem is beautiful, best of luck with her.

Thanks Sandy - how's yours coming along?? Anytime ready for aquascape yet?

Well it's all relative they both get easily big enough to force Ed into making his tank an anemone species tank ;) but the giganteas grow thick while haddoni spread out. The easiest to keep is mertensii but it's also the largest and so large they hate shipping them so they don't collect them, unless your shu tin and send a whole team of divers out specifically for small ones....

That's a great idea on a RBTA island just for her.... I love RBTA for their colors but can never finds ways to secure them to where I want them

That's true - they are always to blame for missing fishes :)

Anyone got a picture of a mertensii cause as I say, I think I saw a small one in my LFS but not sure...her tentacles are more rounded

Thats different than what I've read...need to stipulate that I've never kept any carpets other than a Hadonni......but Haddoni's are supposed to be the easiest to keep and the most notorious fish eaters. Meternsii's are the largest and next easiest of the carpets to keep, but not easy by any sense of the word. They get to be over 3 feet in diameter and have two different types of tentacles. Short stubby tentacles on the majority of the body, and longer tentacles around the mouth. They also typically have orange verrucae that get denser and almost turn into lines as they go down the column.

Phender knows much more about these anemone's as he's kept and even fragged one.

Giganteas are the smallest of the carpets, staying right around a foot or so in diameter. They are also recognized as the most diffcult anemone to keep long term.

That's sweet. I want that font! :D

Try to enjoy your holiday as well, somehow.

Normal 'Comic Scan' font - busy few days for me in the hotel but have a great time. Just about every guests I met in the hotel want to buy me a drink so had quite a few :D

Thanks Nick for chipping in - what makes Gigantea harder to keep compare to the other 2 carpets?? I used to have one and as long as you give them their random flow, good lighting and the sand bed with rocks, they seem happy!!

However, I've never keep one longer than 6 months as my previous one was suck into my overflow :rolleye1:

Any tips??

NEW CORALS…

NEW CORALS…

Aptaisia.jpg

Not exactly  but found a couple of aptaisia on my rocks today… my 3 butterflies are getting fat and lazy and they no longer picking on rocks, but instead always begging for food each time I approach the tank.

Took out that piece and treat it outside the tank with hot boiling water!! Will monitor the next few weeks and see if it comes back and if yes, will take more drastic action!

PINCH MANTLE?

PINCH MANTLE?

Meanwhile, my beautiful blue Maxima is showing sign of pinched mantle!! Anyone knows any cure for it or it’s a sure goner??

Picture of pinch mantel â€"œ top center
Clam-pinchedmantel.jpg

I’ve been keeping it for over 2 years from about 3” in size and she is now about 5” and I really hope I don’t loose her??

Took it out and can’t find any snails of any sort at the based. Not sure if the fishes are harassing it or something else as I do got quite a few ‘known high risk’ fishes in there as nippers??

:eek2:
