PHOTO PERIOD SCHEDULE

Thinking of the following photoperiod schedule to slowly acclimatized my corals to the new lightings, which is a lot more PAR compare to my existing lightings:

• Week 1: 8 hours T5/ 2 hours MH
• Week 2: 8 hours T5/ 2.5 hours MH
• Week 3: 8 hours T5/ 3 hours MH
• Week 4: 8 hours T5/ 3.5 hours MH
• Week 5: 8 hours T5/ 4.5 hours MH
• Week 6: 8 hours T5/ 5 hours MH
• Week 7: 8 hours T5/ 5.5 hours MH
• Week 8: 8 hours T5/ 6 hours MH

Any thoughts guys?? My current Mh bulb is 250w XM 10k on e-ballast running for 8 hours/day.

Do you think I can start off with 4 hours of MH or stick to 2 hours to be on the safe side?? My above proposal seems very conservative and ideally I would like to start off at 4 hours?

Marc……I know you used LB reflector as well â€"œ can you advice if this is the best way to acclimatize my corals to the new lights?? I really want to avoid putting layers of screens under the new lightings, or moving them too much to the sand, unless I REALLY has no other choice

The schedule is perfect the way you have it. I would stagger the MH lighting so you get 6 hours of light out of the three 2 hour bulbs. You can have them overlap by 15 minutes if you like, so you don't have to look at a temporary dark period.

Then as you ramp it up, shift the schedules so you continue to have the 15 minute overlap. On week 4 or 5, you can overlap longer to fill your entire photo period each day.

Yeah that my planned on each Mh to run for 2 hours each but with different timing for each but didn't think of overlapping them

You think by week 8 they should be able to take 6 hours of Mh??

Thanks Marc.

Absolutely. Mine are running 6 hours each, and have been ever since the 2 month acclimation period. That sounds so long, doesn't it?!

My lights are:

VHO - 11am to 10pm
MH1 - 1pm to 7pm
MH2 - 2:15pm to 8:15pm
MH3 - 3:30pm to 9:30pm

Thanks Marc - so you stagger your MH 1:15min each?? which means you have only 3.5 hours of full MH on at one time :)

I like the idea as it save me some electricity which = MONEY!!

I have to ask i might be missing something, I like the idea of running them staggered but if you are running them the same length of time you would not be saving any money. :) sorry if it was just wishful thinking. :)

Many people like to run their lighting 8 - 11 hours a day. Running them staggered but only 6 hours per bulb does give you a longer viewing period without the full wattage for the entire duration, plus the tank is less likely to overheat because high noon is more defined.

Yea that is a great idea, I think i will even do that with my T-5's so that i can have the longer viewing time without having to unnecessarily run all the bulbs the same length of time.

I was thinking of it the other way, that if you were going to run your bulbs 6hrs anyway it wouldn't save any money but now i know what you mean. :)

I will have to think have to incorporate that to use the least wattage but still get the corals plenty of light as well as a longer viewing period.

I FINALLY DID IT!!

I FINALLY DID IT!!

Now that my params are stable and with the upcoming Christmas, I decided to get myself a little present!!

Been looking for one ever since I lost my green carpet about two years back due to my uncover overflow box, which is design with a weir at the top and bottom… what was I thinking then??

Saw this beautiful florescent green Carpet in the LFS and last night I finally went to get the nem, which I’ve been keeping an eye and dreaming about it for over 2 weeks now…… She is slightly over 8” across in size and I was told she is from South China Sea….

It seem quite healthy from what I can see from its tight mouth and its tentacles are super sticky. (Actually they have 4 of them nem so I pick the healthiest looking one!!)

The underside is creamy yellow with purple verrucae (hope I got that spelled right…) From it’s tentacles and based I’m quite positive it’s a Stichodactyla Gigantea

Any thoughts on ID and what will host it?

If it’s a confirm Gigantea, then it should hosted A. Akindynos, A. Bicinctus, A. Clarkii, A. Ocellaris, A. Percula, A. Perideraion, A. Polymnus so I’m thinking two pairs of tank raise A. Percula  Or even better still if I can find two pair of tank raise black & white A. Ocellaris??

You guys think if it’s possible to try a pair of A. Percula and a pair of black & white A. Ocellaris in the same anemone?? Will they get along, as both are quite similar in behavior and not that territorial?

As usual, I acclimatized the Carpet slowly before placing her in the tank… hopefully she will continue to do well with some TLC and proper lighting and random flow…

Created a place in my aquascape just for her with a piece of flat LR covered with some sand next to my rock cave and close to my hidden streams so hope she likes as I know she likes to bury her foot under some rocks and sand to feel protected, based on my previous experience as the last thing I need is a wandering anemone as I still have corals on the sand bed.

It is very pretty. Congrats. Now go tell your other fish to say away from her.

Have send out internal Memo attention to all fishes and shrimps "Please Stay Away from Green Looking Monster - go near at your own risk"

Beautiful specimen, Ed! I think you're right on with the Gigantea call. The oral disk doesn't seem to have any white(ish) stripes and the verrucae are definitely in rows and seem to stop near the top of the body column. Can't see the tips of the tentacles very clearly - do they taper a little (boy, can you tell who's been reading too much lately) - in any case, I would love to have one. :)

Whoa!!! This is page 40 - you're going to get another split soon. Congrats in advance. ;)

Wow....times flies and here is closer to another split :D

Actually I'm always confuse between Gigantea and Mertensii  They also have one carpet but the tips is rounded (not long and pointy like a Gigantea) but badly bleach yellow in color so maybe that's Mertensii :eek1:

Thanks for the info above.... mmmm I must do more reading on anemone!!
