Got a little time today to write up a quick review for those who is interested:

How It Works?
This battery -operated gravel cleaner (they even included batteries) is designed that dirt is taken up without disturbing the gravel and its purifying bacteria.

Comes with an ON/OFF switch (can’t be any easier) and the only thing you have to assemble is the plastic end.

It runs on 4 battery and the battery casing is waterproof, which means the whole thing can be submerged into the water.

The pump is quite strong and yet with a gentle suction. However have to be careful not to let the sand go up too high or it might end up jamming the rotating gear.

A filter compartment in the device retains the dirt while letting the water immediately back into the aquarium. The filter element is simple to remove for cleaning.

Suitable to used both for FW and SW tanks and most importantly to note ITS FULLY SUBMERSIBLE

What they can do better:
As the water is return back into the tank, you still have to do WC, unlike those manual gravel cleaner, where you can vacuum the bottom and do a WC at the same time.

Would be nice to have an option to removed the water in this case.

Summary:
What else’s to say, works as advertise and I think they are the only battery-operated gravel cleaner out there.

I would rate this product a ‘must-have’ for busy executives, who don’t have time to clean the sand bed regularly.

Also a great tool to clean your sump tank, especially in those tight space and shallow water where the manual gravel won’t work too well.

No more hand shaking for me and having those hose connected to your manual gravel comes loose and causing a flood in your house….

Overall, I give this an A+ in my books of ‘recommended maintenance equipments to have’.

Already got another 2 friends buying it……

How would it do siphoning a bare bottom tank? I'm seeking an easier way to vacuum the debris that collects on the bottom of mine.

It make me want to buy one, Ed. I don't know whether to thank you or cuss you out.

Hey Marc, I was thinking about it and we can actually make one out of a old unused powerhead and hook a bag on the outlet of that powerhead to capture the debris :p

We can also have a flathead vacuum to hook onto the inlet of the powerhead....

Let me draw some sketches when I got time and post what I mean :D

I've done it with a Maxijet before, sending the output via tubing into a sock in my sump, but the intake would clog up too easily. You need a bigger pump, like a freakin' Rio perhaps. If you don't mind getting shocked, that is. :D

ED do you think that gravel cleaner will take up copepods, and other tiny inverts in the sand? Cause I sure hope not.

I would presume a couple of copepods will be suck up. That would be the same as using traditional vacuum :p

Ed, do you know if ATB or any company is coming out with an automated zeo-reactor? Im getting really tired of pumping it twice a day

Currently I have the vertex zeoreactor with .6L stones (80g net volume) I was thinking of possibly just putting a modded maxijet (2100gph) under the stones and having that turn on for a few minutes twice a day. I wonder if this will work?? Maybe I can squeeze 2 of the powerheads underneath. I wonder if thats enough agitation to release the mulm.

Whats your dosing schedule look like right now? Are you still dosing bak/food every other day?

thanks

ATB have 1 prototype automatic zeo reactor made for 1: to 1.5L currently being tested by Victor. Post in the ATB sponsor forum and ask Victor as I know Anton send to him about two to three weeks ago
