I had a colony that I put on the sand because I heard they do well on the sand but the other day some parts of the colony particularly the edges got buried in the sand by a sand shifter sigh and when i pulled it out it was dead around the parts which were buried.. how do you think this happened? im so angry at myself for putting in the sand, i never had things just die by it being buried and it wasnt even the whole colony that was buried. anyone know why this happens? there are some corals that falls from the rocks and are flipped over in the sand but they never died on me like this.

They do well on the sandbed, i.e. they don't require a ton of light. They don't do well IN the sand though. A good suggestion is to find a very flat shallow rock or something like that to rest it on.

What I'm doing right now coincidently that I see this thread. I'm using dead rock. I have aquired the use of a wet saw. This type of saw is used by those who cut stone and tile for countertops, floors, walls etc. Has a nice diamond blade. I cut some wonderful thin perfectly flat pieces out of a junk coral rock thats been out of the tank for some time. I will be using these for three of my Acan Lords to keep them off the sand, as well as propogation of zoo's and Yumas.
