Edison Customers Beware!!!

In my $503 bill was a paper that said they were applying for permission to rase rates another 12%

So the rumored 30 we have seen, plus another 12 is near that 40 - 45 we are talking about...

I am cutting all sorts of corners.... next is power strips on the Audio Video equipment.

Keep in mind that electricity generation for southern cali is from non-renewalbe sources - similar to water.

Water too, is based on tier pricing.

I'm not going to be too popular here for saying this, butI prefer that people are forced to pay more if they use more rather than having to be forced to deal with mandatory blackouts.

i dont think a power plant has been built in the US in over 2 decades due to environmental concerns...but out President is in favor of bringing them back.

I do that NOW, plus all the computer stuff.
I leave lights off at night now, and use candles.
What else????

My Edison bill (Received Saturday) had a paper in it with a notice of a 55% rate increase. My bill was almost $300 and it was $160 for the same usage previous month.

dude i just went around the house and unplugged things that arent being used and turned off my night sensor lights and unscrewed 2 of the 4 porch lights that light up the front entry...

turned the AC up to 81!

geeze lol what else

most of the lights in the front rooms are those flourescent kind that save money but the bedrooms arent maybe ill switch those out too

Mine runs around $350 month and now this.
This is my shop mind you and not my house. All my tanks are at the shop in the back warehouse and the only cooling available for it is a swamp cooler. With the heat the way it's been the last month I've pretty much been forced to leave it running almost full time. I shut it off for a while when I come in a 6am. Not sure the blower motor size but it runs on 220v as does the water pump.
I haven't added anything else that uses juice and I never run the AC in the offices even though I have 2-5 ton units on the roof.

The major increase if not all is from the swamp cooler and about 6 fans I run on a controller on one system since it has no chiller. I'm wating for a 1/2 HP Corallife chiller to land at the dock for this system. The chiller will be much more cost effective, at least at keeping the tanks cool.

If I never log in again it's because my wife killed me. Last time I got out of this hobby 15 or so years ago it was due to the cost of power even then. We THOUGHT $150/month was high.

wow!!! now i'm really scared! do you run AC in your house at all josh?

I have and set my AC here in the IE at 85 or 86.
I think we should have a BIG SALE here on the RC.
We are all going to need to, sooooooon.

I'm buying night vision goggles so i can live in my house without any lights on. Also an extra long extension cord so i can plug into one of SCE's main office outlets.

Before everyone freaks out about their tanks, get the facts! Buy a Kill-A-Watt meter (or 3 or 4) and figure out the usage of everything in your house. You will probably find that your hot water heater, dryer, oven and AC use far, far more energy than your tanks. With that knowledge, you can target the energy hogs better.

Now, you may not want to live without hot water, but if no one is home during the day, stick it on a timer! It only takes about 2 hours of off time to use less energy than reheating the water.

Get a clothesline. You don't need to dry everything. Save the dryer for the items that need it and damp dry the stuff that damp dry works for. Electric dryers tie electric ovens for the #1 most powe consuming device in the house.

Got a gas BBQ? You can use it just like a gas stove and a gas oven, and you won't be heating up the house -- which the AC then cools down.

Get shades, blinds, heavy curtains, or whatever up on the windows, especially the south facing window.

Oh hey, what about those big plasma TVs everyone is always talking about on this forum! 340 watts for a Gateway 42" plasma TV. That's more than a lot of people's tank lights.

Candles a cheap, it's the matches I'm worry about.
This whole thing has gone from bad to worse.
That's next??????

Okay folks, for those who don't save their bill inserts (or get e-Bills like me) here's the So Cal Edison web site where you can download and view all the recent bill inserts:
http://www.sce.com/AboutSCE/DocumentLibrary/CurrentDocumentLibrary/default.htm

The latest insert show regarding rate increase is July 2006, which is right at the top. It is a notice of FILING for a rate increase of .16%. Not 16%, but point one six -- affect residential customers at the rate of .20%. The notice also provides all the information you need to file comments with the CPUC regarding the increase.

I've always been pretty energy conscious for the most part. I try to cool the house at night and keep the cool in during the day. Not too many lights, and what lights there are are flourescent.

However, even with everything in my house unplugged and on vacation I STILL manage to go over baseline.

A couple of years ago the PUC had the opportunity to re-establish the baseline. See http://tinyurl.com/fd4mf and follow the baseline allocation chart for your particular area.

According to their site, during the summer I get 17KWH per day for baseline. However, on the phone, they're telling me I get SEVENTY KWH per day... So which is it?

Even after over an hour on the phone, they still can't tell me. This will be my 3rd transfer... Ugh.

I'll try to post the results once they pull their heads out. Or I pass out from frustration. Whichever comes first...
