Edison Customers Beware!!!

Nicole-the meters only go up to 15 amps because it's only safe to load a circuit with 75% of it's rating if I remember correctly. So even a 20amp circuit shouldn't have more than 15 amps running through it...

It's safe to draw 20amps from a 20amp circuit. The guideline is to only add 75% because people don't remember what's on the circuit, and not everything's power consumption is labelled correctly. It's a margin or error for safety reasons.

My ancient gas furnace is on a dedicated 20 amp circuit, and I really wish I knew how much power the blower draws... that's about the only thing that I'd have in my house that isn't on a 220v circuit that would draw that much power. My hot water heater and AC are on 30 amp 220 circuits; I have a newer gas dryer, oven and garbage disposer so they don't pull much.

How about this?

How about this?

putting an underground sump in so that I would not use my chiller. Since I do not have any experience in this I desperately need someone who has done that to give me a step by step plan that I may achieve that goal.

Well I did an overhaul on the swamp cooler yesterday, cleaned it out and changed all the pads. Today the chiller came on like normal and pulled the temp down to 79.3, and ran and ran and ran, stuck at 79.3. Ran at least 2 hours until it went up to 79.4.

So I got out my tools and cut a hole in the wall and installed an 8000 btu window ac unit. It took less than 15 mins for the temp in the system to start dropping. I can't find the darn manual so I'm not sure what it's drawing when run in "Economy Mode". Anyway full power draws 7.35 amps but the swamp was pulling 7.5 amp and not doing the job with the chiller running full time as well. I also pulled the tile in this t-bar ceiling and made sure they all had insulation over them (about half didn't).

Once the humidity drops the fans can just about do the job. Last few days the evaporation has gone from >12 to <5.

Anybody have any experience with dehumidifiers?

On the AC unit, "Economy Mode" usually means that it shuts off the fan when the compressor is not running. When you aren't in Econo mode, the fan keeps running.

Mine went down again, almost by 5%, which astonished me with the AC running to much. Every little bit of savings helps! I'm STILL looking for a 30amp appliance timer, though, for the hot water heater.

well i got my new so cal edison bill

mind u my last bill was $358.....

so i opened it with fear in my heart and i was correct to have that fear!

it was........ $496!!!! for one freakin month!!!!!

i have absolutely no idea what to do.....

my AC is already set at 80 in the house.... i have everything turned off or unplugged most of my lights are energy savers and im barely ever home!!!

this is just freakin ridiculous.....

we all need to stand up to the electric company and do something ..... they cant get away with this if enough people raised there voices we might be able to get something done!

my dad just got his bill to this month went from $360 to $525 same crap!!!!

who wants to do something!!!???!!!

Out of curiosity, how many kWh are you guys using per month? I live in a 3 bed/2bath house and used 752 kWh the entire month of July... using the AC only on the hottest days (about 8 days total - 5 hours each day). My bill is $104, up from $78 in June. I use everything that most ppl do - washer, dryer, fridge, tv, comuters, etc. Maybe somebody is leaving the lights, computers, tv on all night... i'd check with the kids. $500 a month is really high, tank or no tank.

My current bill is $90.02 for 579 kWh with 30 days of usage, or an average of 19.30 kWh/day.

Last year my average daily usage was 26.91, so I have definately been making progress reducing power consumption and increasing the energy efficiency of my house overall.

this month my bill says i used around 2000 kw for the month

i dont recall exact numbers but thats what it was....

i figured my tank takes about 20kwh a day so about 600kwh a month

my baseline is only 15 kwh a day so with just the tank it goes over everyday

i only have 2-250W MH bulbs with another 130W of PC acitnics ....

im thinking my chiller is what pulls the most money....

that and my AC.... this AC unit freezes my house even when set at 80 it comes on and feels like an ice box....

i also have a small 1800 gallon koi pond with 2 pumps running 24-7 so im thinking that is pulling about $75 a month in electricity....

all i know is some things have to go.... last year at this time my bill was only $120 but i only used 1/2 as many KWH's

how do i cut this back??

i have cut my lighting back to 7 hours and times 2 of my seios to go off with the lights....

i really cant cut anything else back on the tank

i purposely didnt get a 3rd halide cuz of electric bills but now i dont know what to do

I'd have someone come out and look at your AC and ducts. It may not be functioning properly, especially if your power usage has doubled and you haven't made any major changes around the house.

I don't know how you guys do it; my bill is $90 this month.

Mine is $150 and I have 3 tanks (no MH's). During the winter without the AC on it's in the 90's, but I need the AC on cuz my apartment gets hot.

I have no idea why the electric bills are so much. My Dad's was for $1100 for a three bedroom house in Corona. :eek2: That's almost as much as my rent. Freakin nutty I tell you.

how you get $1100 for electricity bill? that's probably as much as the mortgage in corona - well if you bought about 5 years ago.
