(Edit) First post: 55 gal to 32 Bio Cube Too drastic?

I am doing that now as it fills in. The Duncan it growing a bunch of new heads and that Pectinia in the center if getting larger. It has been putting out larger sweepers lately and I think reach the Duncan. I have a small wave maker situated to push the sweeper away from it but there must be a setting when I have my timing off when flow goes that direction. I’ve been seeing a little stinging some days. I might move the Duncan to a ledge just behind and let it grow and fill in the back area. It’s small in these photos from the weekend, but expands to be almost as large as the Pectinia some days View attachment 32412578
Looks fantastic.

its looking good!

been there! galaxia and torches have been my culprits. my frogspawn and bubble got so big in the last tank that I had to separate them and then they both doubled in size once they stopped fighting.

ironically my BTA's could climb over anything and not harm them in the least. but the galaxia and torches liked to fight a lot.

Your rastas look really really good and vibrant. what are these ones? they remind me of pandoras except that blue eye is throwing me off

Hey Dustin, so I asked the guy I got them from.
He says they are ILLUMINATI ZOAs from WWC.

Most of the time they look to my naked eye they appear a brighter orange than purple. So he may have them mixed up with something else (Similar to utter chaos) that blue mouth is either vibrant blue or barely white. Depending on my light schedule. He sent me this from WWC as what he has on file the original colony can from. Unfortunately, his shop is now closed. Where are you located? Maybe the next time I get in the tank I can try to thin out a piece and see if I can get it onto a frag

Coming up to the two year spot for this transformation from my 55g to the 32 biocube. It’s been a fantastic journey. As an old schooler I opted Not to install an Apex or computer/monitor. I think it keeps me more involved, but loved learning about all that is out there today. The hobby has evolved so much and I was in my complacent bubble missing it all. Biggest update was adding a INKBIRD and changing out the big powerheads & canister for better wavemakers. I’ve also upgraded my testing to all Hannah and love them. The clownfish will be 23 yrs old in Oct. tank bred & raised. They were so tiny. I have far better coral success in this smaller tank than the 55g.👍 I also have a smaller 15g that I keep as an isolation set up if ever needed.

This is a photo of the old tank & new 10yrs later. That old set up needed a major upgrade LOL
It’s not High end Acros, but still a showpiece in my home. I can still stare at it for hours. I’m already been staring at a huge wall in my basement and if I hit the big casino jackpot maybe I’ll install a LARGE high end tank. For now…I’m good watching this one grow out and fill in 🪸 😬

So cool to see old tanks and new side by side.

Here’s my first reef (30 gallon) 1990 and my second (58 gallon) 1994.

I like the “wall affect”. My old tank was more FOWLR but I would an an occasional nem or coral. The clowns never cared for any nems I ever put in there. I had about 75 different fish over the years and if the clownfish didn’t like them they got harassed to death. A few long lasted like a Hawkfish and I had two cardinal fish I called Hanz & Franz for almost 10 years. They each lived on either side of the tank and would play in the center but return to their corners. LOL.

lol, the rock in that 30 was California live rock a LFS used to stock. It was mostly softball sized boulders, great coralline coverage but dense and heavy.

The 58 was set up in our first apartment so we were on a serious budget. It had eggcrate at an angle too to bottom to give a wall effect.

I love the GSP on the back wall, thats one of my favorite things in established reef tanks-
Gluing the GSP frags to the wall AND with a magnet under them helped this time around. The clownfish couldn’t knock them off the wall. Now that it is spreading nicely on the back, I’m actually going to slice it at the magnet and move the magnets to bare spots to it can start to fill in this places too quicker.

thats a great idea. my little 4g nano almost has the whole back wall covered now but there are no fish to bump it. in the big tank I have a large chunk about 4-5" diameter glued in, but then I have 2 different smaller types mounted to a magnetic frag rack for the same purpose. I figured, let it overgrow the frag rack and then climb to the wall itself....

Have reached the 2 year point and very happy.
Starting to see some aiptasia again so may grab a couple Nudibranchs again. Just last week I came down to look at night and saw a large adult Nudibranch still hunting from when I added them back in like Jan. I thought the 10 I added died off after my tanks cleared all aiptasia except one large one in the back? This nude was almost 1” and glowing luminescent, from what I recall means it’s eating well. Fingers crossed there is at least another so they breedIMG_3088.jpeg

It’s definitely finding something to eat. Most likely hidden Aiptasia.
Yup I’m thinking taking out the small sprouts and leaving the bigger ones to keep its food source. Just hoping now that I’m finding a few more popping up I see baby nudis also. I’ve started pulling extra bristleworms out too as I know they can attack nudis if they come close to a bristle nest. I have for sure two large worms that I’ve seen in trying to get. The tiny ones can stay

tank looks good! I don't know anything about nudi's myself I always dealt with aiptasia with shrimp, but the tank sure is looking nice.

TWO years after setting up the new tank and the clownfish are laying eggs again. They just past their 23rd birthday earlier this month. I noticed they cleaned out a cave under part of the rock work and he has been picking at it cleaning. Today She is laying eggs. 🥳. I may let this clutch go and get my small 15g cycled up. I was debating restarting it turning it into a low light mushroom/scoli tank but now maybe a nem tank could be cool.

Also my GSP is starting to connect on the back wall and spread evenly. Just added 15 nudibranch last week. Want to get my aiptasia back in check

Hey everyone. I’ve been away from the boards for a while. Just checking in with some 32biocube updates. Tank is doing well and so are the Clowns. Oct is their 24th bday 😬 and they’ve been far for active in the cube than they ever were in the big tank. REG LAYING eggs again.
Couple losses:
1-the large patch of zoas I had front and center are now just a small patch. I’m blaming the fish for over-irritating them.
2-the red Digitata at the top are gone. I need to keep my calcium up better so they aren’t so brittle. I have a large hermit who picks at the GHA and I find pieces at the bottom in the back. Between that and some aiptasia I ended up pulling what was left and hopefully start with a new piece or something else up top.
3-I grew out from a snot on a plug what I think were micromusa. It got about a golf ball size. It was nice. Went away for a couple days and it got overturned in the sand bumped against my 24kt mushroom. It all died back to just a rounded skeleton. Good news is it left a small booger of a frag which I’ve grown out twice as fast on my frag rack.

Growth
My branching HAMMER coral has bubbled and split now a few times. When it’s full ITS HUGE. Went from 2 heads to about 20 now. The 24kt MUSHROOM decided to take a stroll to the back corner and is now about 5-6” across. I should frag it, buts it’s too good looking right now.
The WAR CORAL is starting to spread and now plate off the ledge. Watching that it & the Hammer play nice for now.
The PECTINIA is huge but behaving.
I put 2 MIAMI VICE zoa heads above it and they’ve spread out nice.

I now have at lease 3-4 LARGE berghia Nudibranchs I see at night. Prob about 1” long and fat. I too see small ones here and there so assume they’re breeding. All the small aiptasia is gone but have a couple really big ones. I see one disappear then a few tiny ones pop up. If it gets down to one big one, I smash it to let it spread to keep food for the Berghia. At this point the aiptasia are like a controlled coral.

Here are pics taken after a big water change and deep clean. Don’t zoas and coral were just reopening and still pissed from the cleaning but colors were popping. 😬

OH also, I’ve restarted my 12g nano DX cube. Just got thru the first cycle and doing 1st water change today. Now I have a place to put my frags from the big tank. Hoping to find a set of Longfin clownfish since I’m not seeing any hatches from my older clowns.
