Members Only Atlantis Marine World Trip!

NCPARS is pleased to announce that we have arranged for a special members only trip to Atlantis Marine World (http://www.atlantismarineworld.com) in Riverhead, Long Island, Friday and Saturday, September 15 September 16. Sanjay Joshi has made special arrangements for us with Joe Yaiullo, curator and co-founder of Atlantis (you will recall he spoke at our swap in Hegins in October 2005 about the largest reef in the US). We will plan carpools Friday afternoon/evening from Pennsylvania to Long Island and will stay overnight Friday in an adjacent building. Bring your sleeping bags. We will get a special behind-the-scenes tour, and on Saturday we will join Joe on a collecting trip with LIRA, the Long Island Reef Association. AMW reserves the right to keep some of the more obscure critters collected, but there is usually plenty to go around, lots of macro algae, grass shrimps, etc. If folks go off on their own a bit, they can keep what they catch (unless its permit/size issue). Bring some snorkel gear as well as the grass beds can be interesting if the water clarity is there. A thread about the collecting trip is on ReefCentral, http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=907747

We will return home late Saturday evening.

NCPARS will be subsidizing the cost of the trip as a part of the membership benefit. The cost of the trip to members will be $25 per head, with the club possibly also arranging vans for travel.

There is also the possibility of arranging a mini frag swap between the 2 clubs.

This is a members only trip, but we welcome new or renewing members who would like to join and attend. Student membership is $12, single adult membership is $24, and family membership is $36. New members may join by mailing a check to Malcolm Smith, NCPARS treasurer, 2120 Bressler Drive, Wyomissing PA 19610.

If you are interested, please email membership@ncpars.org ASAP, and no later than Sunday September 10. Once we know who is coming, and from where, we will work out carpool arrangements and driving plans.

hope you all can make this trip
thank you

I am in :-). Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Bring your best ghost stories for the sleepover :D

sanjay.

I'll be there too. I'll need to scrape up a sleeping bag, I guess. Can't wait to see what kind of "tropical" fish get caught off NY...

Is anybody going to be around at the aquarium on Saturday? My fiance is taking me to a Ron White concert for my birthday in Manhattan on Saturday so I can't do the whole trip, but I wouldn't mind a side trip to the aquarium before or after.

I'm presume the aquarium will be open, and my other guess is that several people willl be at a beach not too far away. What time's the concert?

It starts at 8pm so I would come up to the aquarium in the afternoon. I could probably do the whole thing based on time but my fiance isn't into that sort of thing (yet) and would not drive to New York on her own...she'd probably wind up in Cleveland. :) So I'd have to settle for the simple tour to keep peace!

Kevin, I think we will probably work out a more exact schedule and know something about the various event times in the next week. I think the collecting boat trip will go out Saturday morning 9 or 9:30, not sure when it will return though. Depending when everyone will be able to carpool, I imagine we'll do the behind the scenes tour in the afternoon Sat before we leave, although maybe we'll be doing some of that fri evening. When we know, we'll post more.

This should be a great time!

I am really looking forward to getting some semi tropical copepods for culture.
