eel injured, help!

Yesterday I got a new eel ( Ribbon Eel) and a little while ago I heard a weird humming noise coming from my sump. Unfortunately my eel had jumped into the outflow box and been sent all the way down to the sump. Into the same box with the protein skimmer. And for what ever reason the idiots who made the skimmer did NOT put a screen on it. So the humming noise was the eels lower tail being ground up. i immediately turned off the whole system and got the eel out. But not before its tail had been ground about 4 inches up.

I don't see any internal organs, Just muscle. Does any one have any experience with eels being injured like this? Is there any chance it will survive? Can I do any thing to help it? Please help!

Unforutunatly ribbon eel would have only lasted you a few weeks in the first place (expert only fish but even experts have low success). Second, not one skimmer made has a screen around the the pump. As far as I am aware. And third your eel is most likely a goner, he is very susceptible to disease or bacterial infection. Sorry this happened to you buy we all make mistakes in this hobby that we learn from.

OMG that's just awful. My guess is that it's a goner, but if not I had quite good success with one and here are a couple tips. First you know now these are true Houdinis. Escape artists supreme so batten down the hatches. Next feed by hand, or tongs, or what I did was rigid airline tube with a blunt pin in it and impale a chunk of squid or clam etc on it (soak in vitamins first) and train it to eat it. This works and also draws the eel out from the rock work, of which there should be lots. Great fish very interesting and worth the work.

I habe no experience with eels but You'll need antibiotics treatments to prevent infection which needs to be done is a qt.
If not, I would keep water quality as best as possible and hope for the best.

Eels in general are pretty tough. As long as it is eating (always the challenge with ribbon eels) you have a fighting chance. As mentioned if you can treat it with antibiotics it would help.

I actually has the same thing happen.but he got into my return pump. mine ended up being ok. his tail was scared but ok.

i fed quite often and checked levels to make suure he was not under anymore stress. i was very nervous. do what yo u can for him.dont just let him go and he might make a recovery.

like the others said. is he eating? if so what?
