Eels in 120?

for a snowflake that should be fine. they do not grow too large. a six foot aquarium would be nice though

Thanks for the replies. I agree that a six foot tank would be better, and won't rule it out for the future, but the spot that I have right now will only fit a four footer.
Any suggestions on tankmates that would be ok in this tank? I'm assuming that triggers and puffers would get too big.

Yeah both will be happy in a 4' 120G. Eels are very adaptable. Thats not to say you should cram one in a nano but they are tough fish.
For Puffers your kind of limited but a dogface could work. Just stay away from most of the other Arothron species like Stars and Stripes, Guinea Fowl, Mappa, ect. because they get too big. A porcupine may be ok too but may need a bigger home long term. I find porcupines grow slower than dogface though.
Do some research on Triggers because there are a few smaller ones that could work. Just think of aggression as you stock the tank though. Some triggers will attack eels and even some puffers have been known to pick at them. My old Stars and Stripes grew up with an eel for about 3 years I guess and then suddenly one day killed it. He got more and more aggressive as he got older and bigger.

Still in the planning stages, but am operating under the assumption that I will need to get an overpowered skimmer for the eels in any event. Any suggestions?
This tank is mostly about the eels, so I have no preconceived notions on tankmates, and would actually be ok if they ended up needing to be alone.
I was really just hoping to identify something that would be out and about more in the water column. I've always liked puffers - I've kept FW dwarves for awhile. However, I don't want something that will outgrow the tank, or eventually be a threat to the eels.

You could definately add a toby puffer. Nice color, small size, and the puffer personality. Some smaller grouper species like blueline would also work out.

A dogface will not outgrow your tank and would not be a threat to your eels.

I have had a nearly 3 foot zebra for 2+ years that must be 2 inches in diameter. It won't mess with your fish. There is a rare person who claims this, but you can't find a person claiming it has happened to their fish. Eels are fairly sedentary and I wouldn't worry about your tank size. As far as fish messing with your eel, why not just have community fish and stay away from hard core carnivores. That being said, I have a small huma huma which hasn't been a problem and 2 wrasses that are also less than 5 inches.
