Efficient and quiet pumps

Greetings all: building a 180 gal reef and looking for energy efficient and quiet pumps to use for circulation and "oceans motions" system. From what I can tell the Sequence series seem to be the ticket. The main circulation pump will be pushing through a nuClear cannister unit so it's head pressure needs to be adequate to push through a pleated filter when it begins to clog. I am told 10x flow rate is preferred making that an 1800gph rating. Any recommendations from your experience?

Thx,

Lee

The reeflo series pumps will work out ok, you'll need to figure out exactly how much head pressure you are placing on the pump with that filter though before you can decide on either the Dart, Barracuda or even the hammerhead. I doubt you'll need the hammerhead, but there is a pretty big difference between the Dart and Barracua as far as head pressure tolerances.

for a 180 I would run at least a Dart for the closed loop and i would look into the UNO line for the return pump since it will go through a canister filter.

I am planning 2 Darts for CL and an Eheim 1262 for my sump return on a 165 and I am still debating whether or not I will need additional flow in the tank.

The uno series pumps are high speed pumps aren't they? If that is the case then they will be a much more loud pump. As for a closed loop pump that was mentioned by pyrrhus, I would go with a hammerhead on that size tank. You could then match almost any kind of flow requirements.

Thx - What's amazing is after you add up all the power requirements for pumps and lighting you end up burning kilowatts and wonder why your electric bill is forcing you into bankruptcy... By the way pyrrhus - I agree about your captivity statement, but would argue it's ignorance vs. stupidity - although I am sure there is a "stupid factor" in it somewhere. I recall one cold Florida morning when highly educated people agreed that firing a rocket with frozen "o" rings was no big deal...or broken heat tiles (stike two...anyone for a third?)
