egg crate vs louver

Are you using this for fish jumping? If so go with screen frame kits and 1/4" netting.
BRS has everything you may need.

I am but I have stupid bow front. Noone sells bowfront screen lids I have even emailed companies asking for a custom make Noone will. I already bout the egg crate but if you know where I could get a screen top for 46 gallon bow front that would be awsome?

Yea that's a good idea. Can the fish ( flasher wrasse) jump through it still or is it just a light issue? Also can I use regular spray paint to paint the egg crate or do I need something special with it being so close to the water? I hate to waste a 13 dollar piece of egg crate lol

You can notch out 3 spots along the screen frame and bend it slightly. Works really well, done it for a couple people after I saw it once, fairly easy to do. Might take a couple tries to get it clean looking but that depends on your skill level and how picky you are.

I would stay away from the egg crate as lids. Fish get through it and it blocks a lot of light. The black egg crate makes e tank even darker than the white.

I have seen a diatom bloom on as and bed in a pattern of the egg crate, that's how much light it blocked.

There is an article somewhere by Dana riddles that supposedly addresses this I cannot find it but I have found many references to it. Basically it says that egg crate has two sides and the plastic actually tapers from .07 to .05 and if you have it placed the right way it will actually focus the light downward. Haven't tried this for myself yet as I am waiting on my leds in the mail but it is an interesting concept. It probably won't matter for me because the fish o want will probably slip through the egg crate so I'll need screen.
