egg crate

anyone know where i can gather a few peices of egg crate to use in my tank? i dont need to much so i dont want to order any online. for now im looking at using the crates from the grocery store in my tank but im not sure how well i need to clean them first or if it will even work. any suggestions?

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and ask for light diffusers. Most of the help won't have a clue what you are looking for if you tell them you want egg crate. Ditch the grocery store idea. Not the same thing.

trev how much do you have? i only need a basket kind of thing to lay some corals in.

Lowes or HD have sheets in 2'x4' section for about $10. Like Don said, got to the lighting section, usually where the flourescents are, or ask for lighting diffuser.

It's actually between $5-$6. The Woodland HD was out when I checked last week.

Ace carries them as well... but they are a little bit more than HD or Lowe's (however after factoring in gas... it may be cheaper to get them from Ace).

Not at HD here in Vacaville. I think the sheet I got was $11 with tax about a month ago.

Price increased in the Bay Area as well. I was blown away to see it for $11 (HD), and $20 at another (Ace)

The reason they were so cheep at the woodland HD was because they were closing them out. They no longer carry a number of diffusers. I checked a few weeks back and most were already gone the only ones they had left were the chrome diffusers.


As for the price difference between ACE and HD, all ACE's are individually owned and may price things a little different.
