egg crates at hd/lowes

That is pretty much what everyone uses. My lasts build I didn't use any and was perfectly fine. My next one I think I will though.

Apparently, the white variety has been known to leech phosphates.
I'm not sure about this, but to stay on the safe side, I get the black egg crate from BRS

I think that was made up by the people that sell the black stuff, doesnt seem to me that color would change the ability to retain phosphates. But thats just me.

That being said i made my skimmer stand out of acrylic.

I don't know about the phosphate stuff. But there are some guys I watch on YouTube with a coral farm and when they want to add phosphate they put in big sheets of the HD white egg crate. John at Your Reef has the black stuff in stock last time I checked (about 2 mos ago) it's a little more expensive but I like the looks better..

One way to test if it's true or not is to put a piece of eggcrate in a bucket with DI water that you tested for phospates beforehand (baseline value), wait a few days, test again, if the phosphates goes up then it probably is true, if not, then it's false and OK to use.

I know a while back there were brands of carbon that leached phosphates
