Eggcrate at the bottom of a 240g?

For those with large tanks, would you recommend using eggcrate under the sandbed because of the large amounts of live rock?

I never bothered... the sand sifters in your CUC can't get to substrate in the egg crate holes. I placed base rock directly onto the tank bottom, then added sand later. That minimizes shifting or collapse of stacked rocks. JME

I cut pvc pipe to the depth of the sand and inserted them in sand to act as a pillar to support rock .Also allows critters under rocks with no collapses from sand movement.

I know plenty of folks use eggcrate underneath.
I just got done setting up my 240 and I didn't.
Always put rocks, then sand.

I have used eggcrats on pvc pipe an inch or so above the sand to keep the LR off of the sand. Then you add some smaller pieces in front, on the sand, so that it doesnt like the Rock is hovering. That worked well.

I have also glued 2 inch lengths of PVC pipe (3 inch diameter) to the bottom of the tank. Prior to cutting to length I made hundreds of holes with a 2 inch drill bit so that 1: critters can get through 2: it makes a castle top edge that grips the rock. This worked very well. I used silicon to adhere the PVC to the tank bottom and arranged the pipe about 2-3 inches apart, under where I had figured i wanted rock to be placed.
