Yes it has finally happened, I am able to get my feet wet. Got an email from the LFS the other day and he has a customer that has black percula eggs that are being dropped off at the LFS on Saturday.

I am going to pic them up. Apparently 48 hours before hatch. The down side is that I am traveling next week, so my poor other half, Vikki is going to give this lot a go.

I cannot wait. At least my rots are maturing so to speak.

Will keep you posted as to how this goes

Kathy, I have a question foryou. How did the eggs fair when you transported them?

Thanks
Steve

I did not have great luck with the transporting in that I only got a 50% hatch, however, that was enough to get me started, and i am grateful. It may vary with the broodstock.

I recommend going to pickup the eggs from your LFS customer directly. Fungus is the enemy, and you will not want the eggs to pass to inexperienced hands. Less time in transit, the better.

I wish you luck! Here in the US, black ones are very popular!

Kathy,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately for this journey, it is rather too late, but for the next one it will be better organised.

50% hatch is fine for my first atempt too. Let just hope that we get there. One thing that is going to happen is that the eggs are never going to come into contact with the LFS water system apart from keeping warm so to speak. As soon as they have arrived I will get down and collect.

Thankfully my LFS is a keen marine reefer and biology fish major to boot. So that is very good for me.

I will let you know how this goes.

Steve
