eggs!!!

Ok those eggs hatched wasn't ready for them. The clowns already laid another batch. I will be ready for these ones!!! Got a photoplankton culture going to feed the rotifers, and rotifers ready to feed the clowns!!!

I will try and post some pictures up by the weekend if I have time. I think they will hatch between Sunday and tuesday

Roger your gonna be one of the best aquaculture/breeders around if you keep this up I will never have to go in a store again lol :-)

thx but I am not intending to raise these for sale. I just want to learn how to , and be successful at something I have always wanted to learn how to do. I have a 120gal frag tank that doesn't have any fish in it. so It could handle 30 or so clowns in it!!! would look awesome I think. if I pull it off I may even setup a 75 gal bubble tip and clown fish tank for them!!! im a long way for keeping them alive.

Tonight I started my phyto and rotifer cultures. I have 2 5 gallon buckets setup for rotifers and I am working on setting up 4 two litter bottles of phyto to keep the rotifers feed. till the phyto culture is complete I have store bought rg complete for the rotifer cultures to eat.

wish me luck I will need it :)

ok so They should hatch tonight maybe tomorrow.
here is a better pic and a quick video. you can see the eyes perfectly on them now!!!

Rotifer culture setup. 2 5 gal buckets with airstones. they have been going for 3 days now so then need to be harvested for the first time today.

I guess I will post the video later as photobucket has frozen loading it. :(

ok well here is an update. the fish fry trap I used was a bust. only caught 6 clown fish. they hatched over 2 days made it even harder to catch them. I got 2 on the first night an 4 on the second night :(

Ok so from the 6 I got I have 4 living and going great. on day 12 I think. after day 7 I went through my entire culture of phyto :( so I have been using phytofeast to keep the rotifers alive. the culture is not as dense but the rotifers are still alive and enough to feed 4 fry.

Here is a pic or 2 plus a video. click on the last pic to play the video.

baby mysid in the trap.

Baby mysid video if you click on it. the trap did a great job of catching these :)

click on this for the clown video.

here is the water changing setup for the clown fish. they get a slow drip not to shock the fry.

siphoned all the stuff off the bottom then let it suck out water for 5 min or so while it is filling at the top

Thx Bobby but for the record. if you keep SPS I don't care who you are you have problems at some point :(. I have a long way to go still before I would say I'm successful at breeding clowns still. but they say the first few days are the hardest. then to make it through the 20-25 day mark then I think it is mush easier then from what I have read.

here is an update. I believe this is day 18 now.

a couple still pictured these where hard to get shots in focus they r super fast swimmers.

they have laid more eggs but it will be a while before I try again. I ran out of live phyto to feed the rotifers. I just couldn't culture it fast enough since I only started with a 2 liter when they hatched. I ordered some more phyto on ebay. I will get more like 3 gallons ready before I try again. I will need to order in a start for rotifer culture also. anyways that's the update.
