Eiblii angel gill flap missing

So i bring home a new eiblii angel from petco who is happily swimming around and very plump. When i put it in my tank I notice that the flap of skin that covers the gills on one side is missing! you can see the red gills underneath, but there appears to be no redness or irratation around it. He isnt rubbing or anything so should he be okay? will it grow back?

It probably won't grow back. As long as the fish doesn't injure its gills, it will be fine. However, the missing operculum makes it vulnerable to damage. It's a good idea to make sure there isn't anything else in the tank that will be aggressive towards it.
