Electrical Costs Killing Me!!!

I posed my stats a few pages back and am pleased to announce that by installing a dart gold (replaced ampmaster 4700/5600), as well as changing to T5's from 400W halides and VHO - and replacing my mag 18 and mag 9.5 with a mag 9.5 and mag 7 on my other tank, I was able to reduce the electric bill by about $100 dollars this month.

Difference in for the main pump was about $50 a month! (.35 a KWH for me at the +300%...the price I pay for living in CA!
The other changes while not as large, all added up to about $50 a month. I am quite pleased with the changes and it will pay for itself in about 6 months, covering for the costs of the used parts that I sold.

Anything you can do to cut usage in the upper tiers will end up being a big payoff... When the greenies get their way, we will all be paying CA rates :(

Well done. I always say the best things you can do for the environment should also be the best for your wallet.

Actually when the greenies get their way you should be paying less for your power. Eventually anyway.

I noticed at Lowes they sell some "instant on" compact fluorescent spiral bulbs. Anyone know how they are doing that? Is the bulb on a little at all times?

well.... you can do many things..the fact is nothing is really going to reduce it by THAT much. The only solution I see is a smaller tank or live with the costs. Thats just the reality.

10/4 i know its never going to be 250.00 a month again got my new bill this month i went from 800+ down to 650.00 set the a/c at 78 and cut the light cycle 2hrs going to change the impellers on the pumps that should help as well. i also went with the monthly budget plan knocked my bill down to 495.00 problem is when the balance it again in 4 months its going to go up. will see next month where im at.
