Electrical?

I am beginning to build my new fish room in the garage for the new tank and I want to make it as large as possible. The question I have is how bad would it be do have a small sub panel in a small sat 11 x 3 room with all of my aquarium stuff. I am sure there is some way to spend about 1,000 bucks to weather proof the box but I must say that the humidity in my basement is extremely high and I don't have any issues with the main panel there.

Why not just put the box on the outside of the room, then have all of your outlets inside the room, which I presume will be vented or dehumidified or something. Keep the Sub out of the equation but close by.

the panel is actually the sb panel for the garage so its tied into about three circuits already and I would prefer to not have to move all the wiring if possible

Its not gonna bother it like u said humidity in your basement and all no problems ... dont see any problems here unless the sump is right under the panel i wouldnt build any aquarium stuff near it..

I can't see it being bad for it unless it was located within 5 feet or so of the panel, but even then they do make electrical equipment for damp locations, but yeah it is expensive to go that route.

You could always go with a millitary grade waterproof case. We used them in pump houses when I was working the oil fields in pa. They are airplane cases with a pressure release, completely waterproof . You can use water tight (wet location use) wire grommets. They are called SBK or pellican cases. You can find these at surpluss store relitivly cheap.

I think it can be a problem. I use a dehumidifier and an exhuast fan in my basement during the winter months and still get some salt mist everywhere. At my house in the outerbanks ( 200ft from the beach) the box in the garage rusts and breakers go from time to time.
