Two months ago I received an assortment of corals and among them were two elegance corals. I am assuming they are Indonesian based on the price and condition. Upon arrival they were both completely receded into their skeleton and all you could see was some brown/purple tissue inside. They would not open and I had no idea they were even elegance until the seller asked how they were doing about a week later. For the first month they rarely inflated at all and when they did they almost never actually rose above the skeleton. At no point were there any tentacles extended, only a tiny fringe around the edge. I pretty much wrote them off and figured I had been duped but now, two months later, they are still not dead.
They are in two seperate systems and one is improving more than the other. The better of the two expands daily now, still nothing like it should, but it is a vast improvement over 2 months ago. There are still no tentacles showing but I hope that it continues on this path. I have tried feeding a few times but it is rejected and results in the coral retracting so I stopped figuring it is doing more harm than good.
The weaker of the two is having more difficulty, I think, due to algae growing in the interior of the skelton. That tank has higher nutrients and unfortunately had Byropsis introduced. It is only hair algae that grows inside the skelton and when I manually remove it the coral starts to expand the next day. I was wondering if I could carefully coat the interior of the skelton with superglue to help prevent it from regrowing or if there was some other way to stop it. My emerald crabs have done a great job cleaning the rest of the tank but will not touch the elegance. I would move it to the other system but the lighting is different and I don't want to further stress it. Although it is a slow recovery, it has still been a recovery nonetheless.
I will try to get photos of them later today but any tips on what else could be done would be appreciated. Seeing how they have made it this far makes me want to do something to try to salvage them.
Thanks!
