Hi guys. I have a 6 mouth old 100G mixed reef. I bought a beautiful elegance coral from my Lfs. All great for about 2 weeks, placed it on the sand bed low light, low flow. It's now been closed for over a week and I'm starting to worrie.

I have all types of coral from SPS to anemones/ hammers/ acan/ mushrooms/ zoas. All are doing great! Any advice would be great? Thinking my coral banded shrimp might be annoying it?

I'll attach some photos

Here's all my details if this helps.

Looks like an Indo to me, which is what I have been trying to warn about when choosing an elegance. I have seen many many perish shortly after making the trip over from the suppliers. Try an aussie specimen next time.

I dont believe its a indo, but without a better pic may be hard to tell. It could be that your water is to clean for him. I have read where eleagance corals are collected from tidal pools on the shore and those tidal pools are not very clean, meaning that elegance corals kinda like dirtier then normal water.

Good points. I also read from one of the gurus, suuuuper sloooow acclimation to lighting is key!

I am seeing more and more of these perish within the first couple weeks, so it is still a mystery to many. I switched to an aussie specimen which has been fine for a while now. Time will tell. I lost this one in 2 weeks so I know your pain!

how often do you feed it? I target feed from tongs chunks of squid and krill a few times a week when feeding the fish plus whatever it can catch on its own. I also broadcast coral frenzy once or 2 a day. mines enjoying the food it seems like it gets bigger every week. I do belive it is an auss specimen though

I have an indio elegance. It's one of my hardiest corals. Here it is, showing 8 months of growth:

If your elegance is in decline and your water params are good, it's most likely do to any/all of the following:

1 - Light (usually too bright)
2 - Flow (usually too high)
3 - Disease

Try moving it to a more shaded place with less flow. If this doesn't help, I'd imagine it's some sort of infection
