Elegance partial polyp bailout

Hey guys, I picked up a rescue elegance and half of the poly is coming off the skeleton. The other half is attached and seems to be eating. Is it better to remove the part of the polyp that's hanging off?

Leave it alone and let it heal. If it starts looking worse than I would frag it. Elegance corals are slow to heal and adjust. Best thing you can do is find a good spot and let it do its thing

I assume the detached half won't reattach. Will it grow a new skeleton?

No. Move it to Low to medium light, Low to Low/Med Flow. Make him stretch a bit to get to the light... If he had completely detached they will still eat for 6 months to a year sometimes if the water conditions are better than good. Most will eventually parish. I currently am within my own elegance experiment. mine has bailed out completely around the edges. There are documents in a book somewhere of how elegance corals have grown a new skeleton after settling in the sand, but not visual proof that this has happened. The best advice I can give you is #1 don't skimp on the skimmer #2 if you cant do at the very least 15% water change weekly (not 30% every other week) give him to someone who will. They need a constant input of new water. I am doing 5% every 2 days. All automated except the salt... It has actually grown out since I got him but will still retract to the center of the skeleton when it gets dark sometimes. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Sounds good. Will give it a try. That tank usually gets about 20% every week so that shouldn't be a problem. Moved him towards the side of the tank. Will keep everyone posted.
