Elegant Elegance? I Can't Decide...

I purchased this Elegance Coral over the weekend. It's a beautiful specimen, but I can't decide if I like it or not?

I find myself to be a touch O.C.D., and placement for the Elegance is driving me nutz! I don't really like where I have it at the moment, but I'm kind of limited in real estate:

The entire right side of the tank belongs to my Diamond Watchman Goby, so the Elegance will have to stay on the opposite side of the aquarium:

Do you guys and gals think it's fine where it's at, or do you think that I should move it? Any feedback and/or placement suggestions would be very appreciated and thanX!

Beautiful Elegance for sure. The best place to put it IMO is the right side in front of the arch opening where the pincushion urchin is right above it. I'm sure your goby won't mind too much. Besides he is on the left side now :lmao: So I guess he owns the whole tank :lmao:

Then if you decide you don't want it you can ship it to me. :D I'm actually looking for one.

You know, I didn't even consider above that arch. The rock on the far right is actually the Goby's house, and the entrance is the only place he's really protective over. I guess I could give it a shot.

Do you think the lights will hurt it being up that high on the rocks? From the top of that rock to my fixture is probably 12-14 inches...?

I would put it infront of the arch on the sand. I mean you could try on the rock but from personal experience my elegance does well on the sand in general compared to when I put it on live rock. No, the lights should not hurt it if it's higher up. But you may have to adjust the powerheads so it doesn't get blasted with too much current.

After re-reading the replies, I thought that's where you were talking about.....but that's kind of where there's the Goby issue.

In the full tank shot, you can see the front entrance to the Goby's house where the sand meets the rock on the right. And all of that sand piled up in front is his daily doing. I'm afraid if I place the Elegance over there that the Goby will drizzle sand all over it whenever he's 'Closing/Opening up shop'.

Whatdaya think? :bounce1:

You get that beast from DD? I saw one that was 6.5" listed on there are damn near bought it. Then it was gone.

Yes they will get sand on your corals. I've got a Hector's goby and have to constantly use the turkey baster to blow off my corals. If I didn't like the fish as much as I do I'd get rid of him. But he's really a cool fish. He can swim in any direction, yes even backwards very well. He gets a mouth full of sand and sifts it over his gills so it's constantly spreading sand. He also eats NLS pellets like a pig and he's a tubby!

No, but that's kind of where this little adventure began. I was originally looking on DD at their RBTA, and decided to check my LFS first. So I went to my LFS, and she had received a few of these huge Elegance Corals. I've never had much interest in them before, but they were just so beautiful!

So I grabbed one.

I was thinking that I might move the Flower Pot over to that spot on the right (in front of the arch) and place the Elegance over there on the left where the Flower Pot was.

Gonioporas don't have stinging cells do they?

I feel the same about mine - I named him "Goby". Not out of laziness, but just because I really like the name. :lmao:

He's a real P.I.T.A., but he's one of my favorites. Definitely the most entertaining!

I would put it straight back from where you have it in the picture, near the back glass. It is large enough that it will still be very visible, and will fill in the space between the rocks.

:lmao: I call mine Hector :D

That is a good plan on the moving and YES Goni's do sting very badly. I've never seen it but have heard they do.,

If it does well, expect a lot of growth. They can go from softball size to beach ball size in a couple of years.

^ I think I might try this.

I'll post a photo the next time I move it. It's really happy and fluffed up right now, so I'd hate to spoil its mood.

Holy crap!

Well I'm wanting to build a 65 gallon, so maybe all of this will be the kick in the pants I need to get it going. (Sounds good anyway, right?)

Better?

Better?

Moved some things around. I think that I like this arrangement better.
