Elliott's Reef: 900g DT , 400g sumps

I was able to see it being built & it is attention to detail. The same goes for the video.

hey thanks Bob, much appreciated

for those that don't know Bob, he makes the very best Reef Stew here in phoenix, and breeds primarily clown fish and others, has a very impressive operation that he can describe better than me

glad you are subscribed Bob!

Impressive build!

I specially am intrigued with the feeding system. What did you design to transport the food to the tank from the holding tray? Looks like it drops from the tray into the refridgerator and then into a larger PVC tube connected to..., or is that a container that the pumps draw from...? You say there's a sump in the refridgerator or did I missread that?

Nicely thought out and executed Elliott!

yes, the food drops from the freezer through a pvc pipe into a 4" pvc pipe that has tank water running through it (water line comes up a few inches in the pipe), so the food hits the water and dissolves, then gets carried to the return pump and into the display, same with the liquid foods

thanks Weyrman and glad you are here!

Attention to details! Wow!

Awesome video as well, the music was perfect! :smokin:

thank you Kalakuhan, yeah I like Bob Marley, funny thing YouTube blocked the video in Germany because of a copyright infringement due to the Bob Marley music, doesn't make any sense to me, anyway, glad you are here!

Absolutely amazing Elliott! Really looking forward to watching the progression. I'll be tagging along!

Congratulations and cheers!

Great work Elliot. I like the auto-feeder.

Do you have an equipment list? Are you still using the RK2?

thanks Mr.Wilson, yes I'm using the RK2 250 PE, you'll see it in the video along with the equipment, also running two Barr 5220's, I'll put together a separate equipment list, glad you are subscribed!

That fridge set-up is some mad scientist **** right there never would have thought of that in my life where did you get the idea ?

thanks JMCAquarium and welcome aboard! I wanted to not be a slave to a feeding regimen, I know that regular feedings are important to corals and fish, so I set out to design a simple but effective way to accomplish it, this is what I came up with, it has worked flawlessly over the past year and I can go away for weeks at a time and use the feeder, even remotely change the feedings if needed on my iPhone :D

I noticed the plumbing for the closed loop is reduced quite a bit for 3HP pumps.

The auto-feeder reminds me of some of the inventions from Gilligan's island, but with PVC instead of coconuts :) As long as it works...

An alternative to the hairdryer would be a solenoid that uses system water. It should be warm enough to dislodge the frozen food and it will keep things clean & less sticky.

Great to see you got a thread going Elliott!
Choice in music for the video was perfect says the wife (huge Bob Marley fan). We watched the documentary on Netflix last week.

As someone who's had the opportunity to see this tank is person, the video does not even come close in representation of scale and complexity of this system! If you have an opportunity to chat with Elliott at the meetings arrange a visit, it's well worth it.

Planning on having some folks down for a small get together soon, a good chance for you to check out my hole in the wall and share a couple:beer:

Cheers,
Shane.
