Elliott's Reef: 900g DT , 400g sumps

Hi Elliott, how did you connect your 1" MPT eductors to the loc line? I've only found 3/4" lockline and in some of your build pics I see some eductors connected directly to the loc line without a transition fitting between them.

Hey Elliott,...another question on your pumps. You are using 3hp ramped up to 50% with your VFD's...would a 100rlt done the job or did you go with larger pumps run at 50% for power savings? I ask because I just bought two DC pumps that I thought were going to save some money on power usage but the DC15000 that I changed out my 100rlt will not run my skimmer properly :( Thanks,---Rick

Wow. All your livestock looks stunning.

thank you Thefishwrangler! appreciate it

I used a Loc-Line 3/4" BSPT Connector for 3/4" ID to a 3/4-1" bushing for the 1" eductors, however there are some 3/4" eductors directly on the loc-line connector

I chose 220v so that it could be controlled with a VFD, 3 hp needed to adequately run 12 eductors for each closed loop, with added power to periodically turn up and agitate the system, I've also had to gradually increase power as the reef has grown in and blocked flow. Your 100rlt is a nice pressure rated pump :)

Yeah,...my rlt100 is the recommended pump for my ETTS skimmer. I guess I need a better education on pressure rated pumps :lmao: I just droped 270 on some DC pumps thinking I would save some $$ on operating cost,...so it back to replumbing the rlt back in. :headwally:

haha, welcome to the school of hard knocks :hammer:

Hey Elliott,...hope all is well! I have a question for you,...a friend is sending me some blue palys,...what should I do as far as quarantine? Do you dip them(Bayer) I'm not sure if you dip soft corals?... and then do your regular tray protocol ? Thanks in advance,--- Rick

in general, no need to dip soft corals or LPS, no common diseases to worry about with them, paly's and zoos I sometimes actually run under tap water for a minute or so as they can be infected (fungi, viruses, bacteria), not sure if that is effective as I've not had a problem with them and am not an expert on their care

Hello Elliott,...happy Friday :) quick question,...do/have you purchased any of your corals at on line retailers such as Extreme Corals ect. or do you just shop locally?

Speaking of locally,...my sister in law just leased a home in Scottsdale for the winter starting Jan 1,...I might make it out to your area at some point.---Rick

first, if you get out my way I'd be happy to show you the tank!

I've tried to buy locally when possible but sometimes it's difficult when looking for something hard to find, I've purchased from almost everyone over the years lol

...like in my young days...always walking around guys looking under the hood of my 442.

I know you said your tanks are kind of the farm for some of your local club members...was just curious if you bought much from on line sellers.---Rick

Hey Elliot! Good to see how great the tank is coming along. Haven't been on RC in a LONG time, but finally got water back in my tank, and boom there's your thread!

Everything looks amazing, really impressed with all the tinkering you've done. It was worth it!

wow, good to hear from you! your tank was amazing and very unique for sure, glad you are getting back into reefing, we need more experienced reefers like you!

I marvel at your automatic feeder often. How has it held up? What if any parts have you had to replace? Why not take out the hairdryer out of the design and just have the cylinder rotate to drop down frozen food into the line and shoot that into the DT? It would simply the design and the heat of the water would slowly melt the frozen food pieces. I just drop a chuck of food into my tank frozen ( I make my own food ) and everyone is big and fat.

it's actually held up well, I've just cleaned it periodically, re glued some of the PVC pieces on occasion, nothing major, the hair dryer is necessary to dislodge the frozen food to allow it to drop

Had a chance to check out Elliott's tank today. Truly epic. I'm speechless. In a good way.

thanks, was great to meet you, looking forward to your build!

Also whats the 1st song in your Youtube video with all the corals? I commented on your Youtube. Figure I get a faster response on here!
