Emaco GP (Thorite) cement/mortar for aquascaping group buy

I found a place in Rochester to buy Emaco GP (Thorite) for cementing live rock together for aquascaping purposes. I'm purchasing a 50lb bag and it will be around $50-60 (still waiting for exact quote). Of course there is no way I will be using 50lbs so if anyone is interested I could sell portions at cost. I could bring it to the frag swap in Syracuse (if it arrives in time), you could pick it up in Rochester, or I could ship it to you (you pay shipping).

If you're interested let me know.

Hmm anyone know where to get this stuff in the buffalo area,I have some heavy aquascaping to do in the next few days..

I'll see if I can find the intermediary website that directed me to the place in Rochester (Allied Building Supply). I believe I just entered my zip and it listed Allied.

Being from Buffalo do you have any experience with the Penguin Sparging Penductors? http://www.cdibuffalo.com/filterpump/peseries.html I got the link from one of the large tank build threads and I would like to get a few for my returns.

Note that they have to special order it, so I don't know how long it will take to arrive.

Is there a substatial difference between thorite and the quikcrete brand of hydraulic cement?

I would search RC about Thorite. I'm no expert but from what I've read Thorite sets in 15mins and will not change your water parameters.

How much do you plan on using? I'll need to construct several structures in the near future and am willing to split it with you.

FYI this is the same stuff marco-rocks sells as some house-brand product. They have some info on use on their site. Look at the product descriptions:

It looks like they are using Emaco 400, I ordered Emaco GP. From what I read GP is the "Thorite" formula, but then I just read in other places that the 400 is the Thorite formula. I don't know the difference between the 400 and GP.

I had read in the forums that the Acryl 60 additive to enhance stickiness and flexibility made the mortar unsafe to add to a reef until completely cured. Marco Rocks is using the mortar/Acryl 60 mix on completely dry rock.

Like so much else in the hobby there is a lot of conflicting information to sift through. I will make sure to give a writeup on my experience with aquascaping with this product.

FWIW from the Product Data Sheets: Note most specs are identical regarding setting, strength ect.
