Emerald Crabs

Put an emerald crab in my 24g JBJ today as part of my CUC. The wife actually likes it way more than anticipated and would like another one. From the research I've done it seems hit or miss as far as having two in a tank this size. So should I stick with one or would two be okay?

The tank has about 30-35lbs of LR.

Thanks

As long as you have a sufficient food source for both then you should be ok. Looking at your tank though I don't see much algae in it so I wouldn't add another at this time. I only have one (Strawberry crab) in my tank and she roams the whole tank because I don't have much algae either. I think adding another right now is asking for one to kill the other and/or they will go after your CUC as a food source.

+1 to cincyjim.

I collect them wild and in my 125g tank I only have 2. I've had more in the past, but they don't survive due to lack of food.

I know emerald crabs are generally for clean up crew, but if you like them for a display creature there is nothing wrong with supplemental feeding to make sure you can keep them. Just don't go overboard with it. I've had a small tank before and your nutrient levels can get out of check really fast if you're not careful.

Nice job on your aquascape btw

FWIW I have two emerald crabs in a small beta tank with some LR for my son. He is 7 and loves them. The two that used to be in my 90 DT both died and I'm glad. They are hit or miss in a reef tank. The two pestered my coral constantly.

Not sure how I can Quote everyone from mobile lol. But thanks for all info and tips and info, going to keep it to just one.
