EMERGENCY, help finding neon goby.

I'm moving the last of my fish into my new tank. Can't find him. Shown a flashlight at the rocks in my bin don't think he's there. Are goby's known to bury in the sand when no other hiding places are available or if they are freightned?

If so how should I try to find him very gently?

Check your rocks - I have had many fish (particularly my regal tang when she was small) seek refuge in a rock by wedging themselves in a nook or cranny only to be picked up when I remove the rock from the tank.

And no, gobies are not to my knowlege sand divers.

Found him. He was in the rubbermaid 50gal bin on the very bottom luckly there was some water there for him. But he was in there almost 2 hours and the water was obviously getting cold. I have him in a large baggie slowly drip aclimating for his new home.

He seems ok. Not to stressed, still swimming a bit in the bag.

Glad to hear you found him. I had an experience a few months ago when I was selling off my LR after I downsized the 300g.

After taking everything out of the main tank and putting what I thought was just LR into tubs, I noticed my Royal Gramma was missing and I gave up hope of finding it after several weeks. Well, as luck would have it, I had someone stop by to pick up all of the rock, which afterwards was left a 20g trashcan in my garage with a few pieces of LR rubble and maybe a 1/2-3/4" of water.

The next afternoon I was cleaning the garage and my wife came out to help. She was about to dump out the remaining water in the trashcan, when she screamed and found the RG still alive!!! Barely breathing at the time, but still alive!!! Remarkable, considering it spent at least 12 hours in minimal water where the ambient temperature fluctuated from the mid-80's down to the mid-50's without any water movement and without any feedings for several weeks.

I grabbed a net and dumped it straight into the 65g where it was really stressed out for a few weeks but is back to its old personality now and holds its own against the rest of the tank.

Wow, my goby didn't have quite the ordeal your gramma did. I guess my goby should be ok considering it was very minimal time compared to yours. Plus no temp fluctuations just a drop.

Overall I had a pretty stressed experience tonite. But I got it all done. And tommorow, when I wake up, I will get to see how all the new fish interact in the new tank, and how the blue tang likes them.
