Can you force water the wrong way through your overflow enough to get it out from where it is?

Last resort:
ShopVac ?
That is, turn off the tank and drop the water level a bit for a few mins and suck it out of there?

If at any point it start to shred then get it out, it could destroy your tank, they love water flow, you will find that what you are experiencing seems to happen too often. Anyone with an anenome will typically have to take percautions to keep them out of intakes and powerheads. Carpet anenome have always been the worst for me.

I had a Condylactis anemone that rode down my overflow and into my sump twice with no harm to him. I think he just liked roller coasters.

When I sold him (he overgrew my tank) I touched an ice cube to his foot to make him let go of his rock. If you find him in your sump, you can try that.
