Emperor Angel Anyone?

How many of you have emperor angel in your sps tank? What was your experience with the Emperor angel?

I am thinking of getting one for my sps tank, but i don't know how the specie do in sps tanks.

I have a juvi and it is well behaved, even with zoas and meaty lps.... we will see once it starts to mature

I currently have an emperor and overall I have no problems with it in my sps tank. Mine occasionally has nipped on some SPS but doesn't do any damage, you may just lose some PE. They usually will go after LPS and some softies once they get a taste for them.

I currently have a juvenile in with my SPS and clams. He hasn't looked at the clams or SPS. So far, so good. I'm willing to sacrifice some polyp extension down the road as he matures if he starts to pick.

Of all the large beautiful angels I think your best bet in an SPS tank is the Emporer.

I like Emperor angels, Regal Angel, and Gold Flake. I'd just added a gold flake and an emperor angel. The gold flake picks at my Red planet once in a while, but i don't see any harm. The emperor i'd just added today. He hasn't touched anything yet. I want the regal angel as well. That guy is one beautiful looker.

My regal is a model citizen among my angels in my SPS tank. The lemonpeel picks a little as does the flame angel, but these fish are very hyper, and pick a little here and swim off and pick a little there. They don't really key in on any one coral, so they do little if any damage. Needless to say, my PE isn't great during the day, but these guys add so much color and activity to the tank, I think its worth it.

I'd love to try a Regal...I just don't know where to get a healthy one. If anyone knows please point me in the right direction.

I say as long as they eat, they'll be fine. You can't really get an extremely healthy specimen at your LFS. Most of the fishes at LFS are skinny Including my fish when i first got them. Now, They're extremely fat and healthy. If they eat and doesn't look like they're going to die, you're ok. It also depends on your system.

How big is he now? But to just answer your question, "NO"

I'm still in the planning stages, and don't have a lot of experience with larger fish (the vast majority of my experience is with tanks smaller than 40 gallons)... didn't think an Emp. Angel would be a good idea.

Emperor Angel Update. He's doing well so far. At first, he only eats brine shrimps. Now, he's started eating pellets and flakes as well. He does occasionally nips at sps and the sps just retract it's polyps. I hope it doesn't effect the corals much.

I've had one in my SPS tank for 3 months. I do have some rogue zoas, mojanos, and anthelia that I was actually hoping it would take a liking to. It hasn't touched them. It is a model citizen. Eats anything I put in the tank for food - pellets, flakes, mysis, nori - anything. It ate right out of my hand the second day I had it. I have not seen it eat anything but the food I put in. Seriously the coolest fish I have ever had.

He might nip at the SPS a little. They will eat LPS though. I had to pull one from my tank before. They love some tasty LPS, especially your high ends acans.
