emperor angel sick, please advice

I can't tell much about the Emperor from the video. There is no magic timeline for velvet, lots of variables. But, like we've been saying, if the Emp. doesn't show it now, and it is velvet, it will. The fish can be infected, especially in the gills, before the classic velvet coating appears. I would do a FW dip (read snorvich's blog) if any of these fish are in real distress, breathing problems, etc.and it looks like you're loosing him. At that point, sure nothing to lose. Again, assuming its velvet, and i'm almost sure it is. Dips can get rid of some parasites and give fish some TEMPORARY relief, but it isn't a cure.

thank you, yes you are right, so I am going to go to big als and get the sea chem cupper and give a fresh water dip and put all my fish in the QT.

I will see if they have a 100 gallon tank to put, thank you all
thx

I can't see anything visibly wrong with him except for the fast breathing/not swimming around. But it's not very closeup.

IMO that approach is only a temp solution as you will need to do WCs to keep the ammonia down and see the fish to know if they're getting better. Below are two good links on how to setup a QT:

thank you for your help

Breathing fast is a sign of gill paracites, not oxygen deficiency which is extreamly rare in a tank. It could be ich which is what it sounds like to me. Whatever it is, it will probably die without treatment if it is in that bad shape but I can't see it from here.

thank you

I will QT all my fish

The way the emp is swimming is classic of velvet. It is difficult to see it because it is swimming in place (not turning like the personifer) and the blue lighting is getting in the way. Since there is a confirmed case of velvet in this tank, and the emp is showing other symptoms (rapid gill movements, swimming in place into a current, etc) I feel it is safe to say he is definitely infected. I think all of the fish are infected, though. Velvet is highly contagious and works fast. Sometimes fish die without showing the actual coating, it can be that bad in the gills alone. I've had fish with velvet eat well just an hour before death... Treat quickly and good luck.

I agree with all LukFox stated. It is up to you if you want to pull all the fish to QT. At minimum, pull the emp and the personifer. Then keep a close eye on the rest of the tank. If you get a death, i would pull them all as the whole tank is infected..

When I had the outbreak, 2 died Wednesday, and 3 died Thursday. Thursday afternoon, I pulled the remaining 4 and started the cupramine treatment plus the formalin dips. G'luck.

Heres a good read on seachem cupramine.

How do you figure?... It looks like velvet.

It could be that too

but still ...I will treat the fish with copper too to get rid of velvet

but, I can't catch the small fish, like blue lines and flame and flame back and etc

they are very fast and goes into the live rock and hides, so thats why I wanted to treat the main display for those with with prazi pro
and treat the personifier, scribble, emp, like the big ones that I can catch with copper and then prazi pro after

If the little ones are sick they will reinfect the large ones upon reintroduction. Use your judgement on this. At this point I would be taking rocks out of my tank and catching every fish, though.

Prazipro is reef safe. It will kill worms, but I've never heard of it harming anything else.

so if thats the case, I will treat all my fish in the tank?

you said prazi pro is reef safe, so should I put it in my tank and do a 20% water change every day?

thx

+1 If that personifer in the video doesn't have velvet; its a great optical illusion. I'd give the Emperor a FW dip (see snorvich's blog for instructions). , you can see flukes in the bucket if he's badly infested and it will give him some (immediate, but short-term) relief from both flukes and velvet. Of course, if this is velvet...............please keep us posted, I hope we're wrong. If this is velvet, you should know very soon.

I remember every second of the "tearing rocks out of my tank" experience. That's what made me a QT nazi. (My spell check says capitalize "nazi", no way. I wish there was something lower that lower case, that would be appropriate.)

how are the fish looking today? are they eating?

prazipro, you dose and leave it for about 5-7 days. do 2 treatments, sometimes 3 is needed. might have to keep the skimmer off.

I would dose the Prazi every 5 days, doing a 25% WC before each new dose. It usually takes 3 or 4 doses to completely knock out Flukes/internal worms.

It's possible that you are dealing with both Flukes and Velvet here, but IMO the Velvet is the one you need to deal with ASAP. You can treat with both Cupramine and Prazi concurrently once you move the fish into QT.

can you get a good picture of the personifer with room lights and not the tank lights?

btw, adding angels without prophalatically treating really runs a high risk of introducing flukes/velvet.

ok sure I will do that today

not sure if u saw this video already but here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCPxpqxaxow&feature=g-upl

I know I know, but the LFS, treated it with prazi pro and melafix etc and it was perfect, I picked it up the per/sci 6 weeks after, and blue lines 2 months after.

I think if its fluke, it maybe came from the emperor, I bought the emp from a person, and he had it for 2 years, from juvi to adult, after I got it, after 1 week the eyes were cloudy, but I thought it was ok bc it was eating fine, then I got the two clean per/scribble, and after 1 week they got cloudy eyes too.

Everyone saying its velvet, but I hope its not, the scribble doing some of waht emp doing too, like sitting infront of the power head, but the funny part is both emp and scribble looks very clean but strange behavior.

However, the personifier looks very dull etc, but normal behavior and eating fine.

If it was velvet, then the personifer would have been dead way back.

Thanks

I know, thank you so much, all of you are experts in this field, but u know, I hope its not velvet

if it is, then I am doneee

Another reefer (ryan) gave me the idea of draining the tank

I know how it feels,

thanks
