Emperor Angel swimming style

I picked up a changing Emperor Angel that I received yesterday and I'm curious to hear a description of their swimming style. This one I got seems unbalanced to me and if a tang were to be swimming like it is I'd be very worried. I kept the lights out yesterday so it wouldn't get spooked but turned them on a couple hours ago when I got home. After trying a few different foods tonight it found one it liked and ate well. It seems to be dealing with pump currents ok but sometimes gets tossed around a little. Granted, it is still learning the ins and outs of the tank. I just absolutely adore this fish and can't stop worrying. Do they tend to swim a little different than most fish or is it likely stressing or having trouble? Jet lag? Looking forward to replies. Thanks!

I would tend to say my Emperor (which I've had 2.5 years) has a bit of an odd swimming style as well. He often has a bit of a "tilt" when swimming, completely different from my Asfur and Passer. He is less active than the other 2 angels for sure. Hope yours is ok and does well for you. I suspect you will hear from people that have normal swimming behavior, but I would say mine is a bit atypical.

I have a juvie(~3") that i bought on Saturday and have it in QT(1.009). Mine swim tilted and side-ways a lot too. I had kinda noticed that at the LFS, but didnt think anything of it at the time. The owner said he had it for about 3 months. Its a pretty aggressive eater. I feed it mostly spectrum pellets, some flakes, and some mysis shrimp. I did try some nori today and it'll occasionally nibble at the nori.

how big has yours grown over the 2.5yrs?

Not the fastest grower, but certainly not the slowest. I got him quite small, I would say 2.5 inches and fully juvi phase, he's pushing 6 inches now and has been adult coloration for over a year. The change took a little over a year to complete.

I'd suggest looking at them on YouTube to see how they normally swim.

Thanks for the idea. I feel much better now after watching a few videos. Seems like they do have a bit different swimming style than what I am use to. Hopefully everything is going ok with mine. The only issue I'm having is that my purple tang went nuts on him the first day. It was better yesterday but the tang is still freaking out a bit. Hopefully it is not stressing the Emperor too bad. I am just amazed with this fish already. It already comes to the front glass the second it sees me walk up to see what's up. Very interactive fish and absolutely beautiful!

Again, thanks for the idea!
