Emperor Angelfish- hopefully eventually a pair

i think its amazing the colouration on the juvi its like the rings are neon looks great, although it wont last much longer :/

good luck them to haydn see the tanks still looking gurrd

I have a "pair" in QT but the larger one is the same as your juvi and the smaller one is a juvi that has yet to start its colour change? Did I go too small?

Interesting question-my understanding is that juvis tend to avoid each other. How do your's react to each other, is there any interaction or does the smaller one avoid the larger fish?

I think your major problem will be the time it takes for them to grow to adulthood. I would like to see some pictures and hopefully you will keep us updated on the progress.

We may be able to start another regal angel thread:lolspin:

Oh, I'm definitely trying a RTegal pair. Probably early next year. :)

The smaller Emp just goes around the tank minding his own business really. Until the larger Emp chases him off.

Regal angels are rather easier to pair-the males tend to have larger and coloured gill spines whereas the females have colourless, small spines and tend to be smaller than males.

Hey this is interesting......Hi Nex I was thinking about doing the same thing....I have a Juvi in my 125 QT and there is a person at one of my local clubs selling a 6-8" changing Emp.....I was questioning if I should try it.

As I stated I have been doing a 21 day Paraguard treatment on the 4 fish in the QT to make sure they have no ich. My 300 display is fishless and will remain that way till at least Dec. If I get the Adult Emp I guess I will have to do another 21 day Paraguard treatment on all the fish again to make sure the new adult has not brought anything with him.......What does everyone think?

Paraguard knocks the parasite off a fish's body. It doesn't kill the tormonts. Like Formalin, it's just instant relief. :)

As for the pair, I think the best way is to do a young adult and a juvie adult (almost finished colour change and just started the change). Maybe mine will pair up down the line in the DT.

Well like I stated in the pm. Seachem states that a 21 day treatment will kill all parasites in the tank and fish. Isn't 21 days long enough to get through all stages of the parasite?

I've yet to see documented proof that aldehyde or formaldehyde kills the tormont stage of cryptocaryon irritans. There are many medications out there and I don't believe any claims until backed by a real study. If Paraguard did kill Ich we would have known about it by now because it's so easy to use and not super toxic like copper.

Paraguard should be used as a substitute for formaldehyde as nexdog stated.I believe it is effective as a bath for relief and also to take care of brooks as that is what i have always used on clownfish.I would not use for ich as although i am guessing seachem claims it works copper or quinine sulfate is what should be used.

why would you use copper if paraguard works as seachem says it will? Copper has far more risk.

Their are reasons people only use a few methods to kill ich.Its because the others dont work.As i stated before paraguard will work for brooks as it is a substitute for formalin. If you dont want to use copper go to the national fish pharmacy website and pick up crypto pro(quinine sulfate )which is what i use and its very easy on the fish.I know seachem claims it kills all kinds of stuff (i have a bottle right in front of me) but its best to use stuff that is proven not experiment and hope for the best.

If you reasearch malachit green you will see it is proven and documented. Its not like the reef safe crap....

I think the stuff you mention is just like chloriquine (sp)....I purchased some fish treated in that....supposed to be ich free....Well here I am....
